ST. PAUL, Minn. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The employee-owned, engineering/architecture firm of Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH), recently added two engineering experts to its operations in southern Minnesota. The addition of Karen Cavett, PE and Chuck Vermeersch, PE to the company's Mankato office, will provide increased water, wastewater, and municipal engineering expertise. SEH operates five offices in southern Minnesota-Mankato, Gaylord, Glencoe, Hutchinson and Worthingon—and has served the surrounding area for more than 50 years.

Karen Cavett's engineering work can be found across the landscape of Minnesota. For the past 20 years, she has designed, planned and provided construction management services for the rehab and construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities. More of her work can be found in Indiana and Wisconsin. Early in Karen's career, she worked in the Peace Corps in Honduras to design and plan rural water systems and provided training to plumbers and technicians to operate the systems. At SEH, Karen will play a lead role to bring more water and wastewater services to municipalities, counties, and industries in southern Minnesota.

"Karen's work is well respected in the industry and among the clients she serves," says Miles Jensen, PE, who leads SEH's Water Practice in Minnesota, South Dakota and Iowa. "I've worked with Karen on several projects over past 18 years, and know first-hand how she values her customers and brings them full-service solutions cost effectively."

Also joining the SEH Mankato office is Chuck Vermeersch, PE, who has provided municipal engineering services to communities surrounding the Mankato area for the past five years. Prior to his work in the Mankato area, Chuck served as an engineer/project manager with the City of Maplewood and a water resources engineer with a consulting engineering firm. He specializes in providing trusted municipal engineering and technical solutions including sanitary sewers, water mains, wastewater plans, systems and upgrades, stormwater permitting, and street improvements and redevelopment projects.

Both Karen and Chuck graduated in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota.

"We have deep roots in southern Minnesota as municipal engineers," said Sue Mason, PE, who leads SEH's Municipal Engineering Team across the Midwest. "And, the addition of two highly respected professionals demonstrates our commitment to invest in the economy of southern Minnesota and provides the venue to expand our menu of services to clients."

Increased Funding Opportunities for Clients
Coupled with the increase in municipal, water and wastewater services, SEH will provide increased funding acquisition services to help communities and industries secure funding for infrastructure improvements including water and wastewater treatment facilities. Over the course of the past two years, SEH has helped clients secure more than $200 million in infrastructure-related projects.

"Given the expansive lead time for water and wastewater projects, SEH hopes to begin work now to help clients identify funding sources to help fund water and wastewater projects scheduled for two to three years down the road," says Mankato Office Manager Chris Cavett. "We recognize the constraints in funding, and our Financial Advisory Team has helped communities uncover funding opportunities they may have not otherwise secured."
