CloudSwitch Enterprise 2.0 Meets Customer Demand for Broader Cloud Usability

Company Gains Momentum With New Customers and Widespread Industry Recognition

CloudSwitch, Inc. today released version 2.0 of its award-winning CloudSwitch Enterprise software. Released just six months after the Company launched its breakthrough software appliance, Enterprise 2.0 addresses customer requirements for greater flexibility, scalability and control in the cloud. With Enterprise 2.0 organizations can now:

  • Provision new Windows and Linux applications in the cloud with point-and-click simplicity and no modifications
  • Better manage and control resources for flexible, on-demand scaling
  • Eliminate network bottlenecks by extending internal network topology into the cloud and allowing secure public IP access

CloudSwitch Enterprise is a downloadable software appliance that installs easily into VMware and Xen environments. Built on CloudSwitch's patent-pending Cloud Isolation Technology™, CloudSwitch software bridges the enterprise data center with cloud computing services, extending enterprise security and control into the cloud. With CloudSwitch, applications remain tightly integrated with enterprise data center tools and policies, and are managed as if they were running locally. CloudSwitch eliminates the engineering efforts and changes to applications, networking and management tools that were previously required to use the cloud, protecting customers from cloud lock-in.

"Working with our customers and prospects we are seeing a growing level of sophistication and confidence in how these organizations are using the cloud," said John McEleney, CEO at CloudSwitch. "They're expanding beyond the initial development and test scenarios into larger, more customer-facing applications. We're committed to meeting market requirements rapidly through our agile, customer-driven development process. CloudSwitch Enterprise 2.0 provides our customers with the security, portability and control they need to make the cloud a successful extension of their internal infrastructures."

"With its latest software release, CloudSwitch has broadened its focus to include a wider set of workloads as the cloud market develops," said William Fellows, Principal Analyst at the 451 Group. "Enterprise customers are looking for solutions that let them span internal and external clouds, and CloudSwitch addresses the security and portability needs of these customers as they integrate the cloud in their IT infrastructures."

Growing Company Momentum
Since initial release, CloudSwitch has attracted several brand-name, commercial customers, including pharmaceutical giant Novartis and Orange San Francisco, the wholly owned advanced technologies and partnerships focused subsidiary of the leading telecommunications operator Orange. Additional customers are market leaders in the pharma, retail, financial services and other industries. These customers are using CloudSwitch for a range of use cases including cluster scale-outs, web application hosting, application development and testing and labs on demand. The cloud offers low-cost scalability and fast provisioning of resources, and CloudSwitch enables customers to take advantage of the cloud's benefits with full enterprise integration and control.

In 2010, CloudSwitch also garnered widespread industry recognition for its innovation and leadership. The company received several significant awards including GigaOM's Structure 2010 Launchpad, Up 2010 Cloud Computing Award and the Global Security Challenge, and was selected in the list of "Cool Vendors" in the cloud management report by Gartner, Inc.(1)

"Achieving integration between existing on-premises management products and public cloud management tooling is a key enabler to enterprise adoption of public cloud computing," said Cameron Haight, Research Vice President, Gartner, Inc. "IT operations organizations supporting corporate public cloud initiatives should seek cloud enablement tools that integrate in-house management architectures with cloud resources, to more readily enable end-to-end enterprise management and control."

Enterprise 2.0 Key Features
To further broaden the usability of its Enterprise software, including new and highly-scalable customer-facing applications, CloudSwitch has added the following features:

  • Provisioning of new virtual machines in the cloud (in addition to migration of existing ones), through:
    • Network boot support
    • ISO support (CD-ROM/DVD)
  • Web services and command-line interfaces for programmatic scaling to meet peak demands
  • Broader networking options to extend enterprise network topologies into the cloud:
    • Layer-2 connectivity with option for Layer-3 support through software-based firewall/load balancing in the cloud
    • Public IP access to cloud resources with full enterprise control
