Two Semi-Trucks Deliver Tons of Food and Clothing to Local Charity to Meet Growing Demand - Thanks to Allianz Life Employees
MINNEAPOLIS - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Hundreds of Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz
Life) employees participated today in a 'human chain' at the company's
Golden Valley headquarters passing thousands of boxed items down the
stairs, through the lobby and into waiting semi-trailers.
"There is a tremendous need in the Twin Cities as one in five families
with children in our community has trouble putting food on the table,"
said Gary C. Bhojwani, president and CEO of Allianz Life. "I continue to
be amazed at the generosity of our employees and am extremely proud of
the continued success of our annual Spirit of Giving campaign."
During the past month, Allianz Life employees collected food, clothing
and cash for Golden Valley-based PRISM (People Responding in Social
Ministry), a community-funded social service agency that serves local
families in need.
PRISM's Executive Director Liz Johnson added, "This year, in the first
six months alone, Twin Cities food shelves served 193,000 individuals -
equal to the sum populations of Edina, Woodbury and Bloomington. Through
the generosity of Allianz Life employees, PRISM can help serve these
families in need during this crucial time of year."
In the 11th year of its Spirit of Giving Campaign, Allianz employees
exceeded the goals of donating:
-
16,000 pounds of clothing,
-
26,000 pounds of food, and
-
2,700 toys, which will be presented to Toys for Tots
next week.
During the past 11 years, the company has collected:
-
$205,000 in cash donations,
-
171,000 pounds of food, and
-
189,000 pounds of clothing.
T.C. Bear of the Minnesota Twins, Nordy from the Minnesota Wild, Viktor
with the Minnesota Vikings, local professional golfers John Harris and
Tim Herron and National Honor students from Dassel Cokato were also on
hand to help.
