Fiberutilities Group LLC Facilitates $20M Fiber Optic Medical Network for Rural Nebraska

Fiberutilities group took a leading role in attaining the successful funding for the project. Funds were attained under the Rural Health Care Pilot Program of the Federal Communications Commission to connect nine primary care hospitals and dozens of affiliated clinics. The funds will be used to create one of the most advanced and robust medical technology networks in Nebraska.

Almost two years of planning and project management were involved in arriving at the final stages of federal approvals through the Universal Services Administration Corporation. "This is exactly the sort of project at which Fiberutilities Group excels," said Kent Van Metre, Vice President with Fiberutilities Group. "Working with the federal agencies and partnering with community-based health care organizations in order to create private fiber networks is our core business."

In addition to its role in attaining funding for the project, Fiberutilities Group has been retained by Rural Nebraska Healthcare Network in an ongoing operations role.

"Various federal funding initiatives have enabled health care providers to vastly improve access to quality medical services in remote areas of the country," said Scot Eberle, President of Fiberutilities Group. "The management of these projects can, however, be extremely complex. We are pleased to play a central role in delivering the benefits of these technologies to previously underserved communities."

The project recently received final federal approvals through the Universal Services Administration Corporation. Construction begins this fall, with a planned completion date of fall 2011.
