IDC Launches Worldwide Database and Data Integration Software Tracker - Results Show a $15.8 Billion Market in 1H 2010
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - International Data Corporation (IDC)
today announced the launch of the industry's first global tracker
covering the database and data integration software market on a
semiannual basis. Covering six major regions and 13 of the largest
country markets, the Worldwide
Semiannual Database and Data Integration Software Tracker provides
biannual market size, vendor share, and forecast data for the four
market segments - relational database management systems (RDBMS),
non-relational database management systems, data integration and access
software, and database development and management tools - that comprise
this market in IDC's software taxonomy.
The Database and Data Integration Software Tracker covers more than 120
vendors worldwide with results delivered to clients through both
Excel-based spreadsheets and on-line Query tools. A critical component
to the Software Trackers is the global presence of IDC's software
analysts who interview vendors, channel partners, and integrators on an
ongoing basis at the country, regional, and global levels. This
information is supplemented by IDC's software contracts database and
carefully analyzed by IDC's newly established software company model
team before it is entered into IDC's proprietary Tracker data platform.
"The Database and Data Integration Software Tracker is one of five new
Software Trackers being launched by IDC this month as part of IDC's
ongoing investment in a new generation of software data products," said Eric
Prothero, senior vice president, Worldwide Tracker Research. "We are
confident that the market data delivered through these products will be
of great importance to enterprise decision-makers as well as the
vendors, their partners, and the investment community."
In the first half of 2010 (1H10), IDC's Worldwide Database and Data
Integration Software Tracker found that the global market for database
and data integration software generated revenues of $15.8 billion and
grew 10.9% compared to the first six months of 2009. For its part, the
Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) market segment accounted
for $11.2 billion of the $15.8 billion total.
"Although the database and data integration market did not suffer
negative growth in the way that some software markets did, it had been
sluggish until late in 2009," said Carl
Olofson, research vice president, Application
Development and Deployment at IDC. "The double digit growth shown in
the first half of 2010 reflects an increasing willingness on the part of
users to invest in strategic data management software."
Oracle led the overall market during the 1H10 with revenues of $5.6
billion worldwide. IBM and Microsoft rounded out the top three. Together
these three vendors garnered revenues of $11.4 billion, more than 70% of
the total market.
IDC's Worldwide
Semiannual Database and Data Integration Software Tracker provides
total market size and vendor share for the following database and data
integration market segments: relational database management systems
(RDBMS), non-relational database management systems, data integration
and access software, and database development and management tools.
Measurement for this tracker is total software revenue, which includes
license plus maintenance plus SaaS and other subscription revenue. The
Tracker covers six geographic regions with country-level data for 13
nations. Annual five-year market forecasts for this Tracker are updated
semiannually and include five-year annual market projections. Forecasts
are available at worldwide, regional, and country levels.
