BALTIMORE - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Scott Tolzien - who led the Number 4-ranked Wisconsin Badgers to an 11-1 regular season record and a share of the three-way tie for the 2010 Big Ten Conference Championship - has won the 2010 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Named after the man called by many the greatest quarterback ever to play football, the prestigious Golden Arm Award is presented annually to the nation's top senior college quarterback by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc. and Transamerica, a leading provider of innovative business and personal financial services (www.transamerica.com).

For the 2010 season, Tolzien amassed 16 TDs and 2,300 yards, and had a completion percentage of 74.3 for a QB efficiency rating of 169.8. Tolzien - who holds Wisconsin school records for career completion percentage at .685 and a career QB efficiency rating of 154.4 - ranks fourth all-time at Wisconsin with 5,112 career passing yards and sixth all-time with 32 career passing touchdowns.

"Scott Tolzien personifies everything that my father stood for. He is not simply an outstanding quarterback, but an outstanding individual who is a leader both on and off the field," says John C. Unitas, Jr., President of The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation.

Former Golden Arm winners include Colt McCoy (Texas, 2009), Matt Ryan (Boston College, 2007), Eli Manning (Ole Miss, 2003), Carson Palmer (USC, 2002), and Peyton Manning (Tennessee, 1997).

The Golden Arm Award will be presented on Friday, December 10 at the Tremont Grand in Downtown Baltimore. Joining the evening's festivities will be former Baltimore Colts teammates of Johnny Unitas, including the standout center who snapped the ball to Unitas, Georgia State University Football Coach Bill Curry.

Proceeds from the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Awards help to support the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, which provides financial assistance to underprivileged and deserving young scholar-athletes throughout Maryland.

In addition to Transamerica, sponsors of the event include: MedStar Union Memorial Sports Medicine, Dunbar Armored, Baltimore's Tremonts Hotels, HMS Insurance Associates, Inc., Wells Fargo Private Bank, Stanley Black & Decker, Century Engineering, Comcast, The Baltimore Sun Media Group, GEICO, R2i.ntegrated, Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards, and Weiss PR Associates, Inc.
