Has Extraterrestrial Life Been Discovered?

NASA is holding a news conference on December 2nd at 2PM Eastern. According to this press release from NASA it will be discussing "an astrobiology finding that will impact the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life."

Astrobiology is the study of the origin, evolution, distribution and future of life in the universe.

The Participants are:

  • Mary Voytek, director, Astrobiology Program, NASA Headquarters, Washington
  • Felisa Wolfe-Simon, NASA astrobiology research fellow, U.S. Geological Survey, Menlo Park, California and is an oceanographer and has written on photosynthesis using arsenic.
  • Pamela Conrad, astrobiologist, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland and has written a paper about life on Mars.
  • Steven Benner, distinguished fellow, Foundation for Applied Molecular Evolution, Gainesville, Florida who is a biologist that is part of the "Team Titan" program studying the largest moon of Saturn.
  • James Elser, professor, Arizona State University, Tempe who is an ecologist that is part of a NASA-funded program dubbed Follow the Elements.

    Will this be the announcement that we are not alone in the universe or just a news conference talking about discovering an atmosphere that "could" support life forms on another planet or one of Saturn's moons?
