Blackfoot Diaper Drive to Benefit Young Mothers in Need

One in three American mom's struggle to provide their babies with a basic essential -- diapers. There's very little help or public resources to fulfill the need of many struggling new moms. This holiday season join Blackfoot in its effort to help moms and babies in need with diapers. On Thursday, December 2 from 4-6pm, Blackfoot, Mountain Home Montana, and Mountain Broadcasting will be at the Double Tree collecting diapers, displaying decorated trees, and bringing in holiday spirit with special guests: Santa and Mo.

"As a sponsor of the upcoming Festival of Trees Gala, we felt that we needed to do more this holiday season for Mountain Home Montana's clients. Many of the Food assistance programs focus mainly on food and nutrition and often don't cover diapers. Everyone who has raised children remembers the staggering number of diapers they used every week. It is one of the major expenses for new parents. As a local company, we wanted to bring attention to the basic needs of our Missoula moms and see if there were other businesses and individuals out there that could help," said Blackfoot CEO Joan Mandeville.

Each year, Mountain Home Montana goes through over 20,000 diapers. About 1,000 are donated from community members and 19,000 are purchased. "This year, we will need 40,000 diapers to serve 30 families as our program grows with the construction of 5 new Transitional Living Apartments. While young mothers at Mountain Home are required to budget for diapers as part of their Life Skills Program, there are times when they need extra assistance. A donation of diapers may seem an unglamorous holiday present but it is so vital," said Gypsy Ray, Mountain Home Executive Director.

Children who bring a box of disposable diapers to the Blackfoot Diaper Drive will receive thank you gifts from special guests Mo and Santa for helping babies in need this holiday season! If you are unable to join us on Thursday, December 2 at the Double Tree from 4-6pm, you can contact Mountain Home at 406-541-4663 or drop off your diaper donation at any of the following locations: Blackfoot @ 1221 N. Russell Street; Mountain Home @ 2606 South Avenue West; and Mountain Broadcasting @ 800 Kensington Avenue.
