Joffrey Ballet, Rosanne Cash, "a Chorus Line" headline spring opening of New Three Stages Regional Performing Arts Center beginning February, 2011

(Folsom, CA) "A Chorus Line," the Joffrey Ballet, Rosanne Cash, Gloria Steinem, Hal Holbrook, Harlem Gospel Choir and many more will join local favorites, including the Sacramento Ballet and the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra, in the capital region's newest home for the arts: Three Stages at Folsom Lake College.

Tickets for the spring 2011 season of performing arts - a sampler of the types of events that can be expected at the new Center in the future - will be available for sale online beginning Friday, November 19, 2010 at www.threestages.net. Patrons buying three or more tickets to Three Stages Presents events will receive a 15% discount.

The Three Stages Ticket Office will open for phone sales beginning at 10 am on Monday, November 22, 2010. The phone number is 916-608-6888. Ticket Office windows will open for walk-up sales on December 6, 2010. Complete information about ticket prices, show times and more is available at www.threestages.net.

A $50 million facility built with a combination of state, regional, local and private funds, Three Stages has three intimate theaters, an art gallery, a recording studio, elegant teaching spaces, plenty of safe parking and all the other amenities of a state-of-the-art performing arts venue, situated on the Folsom Lake College campus at 10 College Parkway, Folsom CA 95630.

Presenting world-class artistry from around the globe, Three Stages Presents will stage its first offerings beginning on February 11, 2011 with five performances of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway play, "A Chorus Line." "It's an honor to host the national tour of Broadway's longest running play on our grand opening weekend," said Dave Pier, Executive Director of Three Stages at Folsom Lake College. "It's an accessible offering for our community that provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse of life in the performing arts and what it takes to put one's self on the line."

Theatre is a particularly strong component of Three Stages 2011 line-up. On February 26, theatre, music and astronomy blur in a presentation of A Universe of Dreams, by Ensemble Galilei and National Public Radio's Neal Conan, in which poetry and music are set to a backdrop of images from the Hubble Space Telescope. Aquila Theatre ("A classically trained, modernly hip troupe," New York Times) presents William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream on March 11 and Luigi Pirandello's Six Characters In Search of an Author on March 12. The Tony-Award winning theater piece Hal Holbrook's Mark Twain Tonight! will take the stage on April 1.

On March 19, history lesson meets musical legend in Gershwin and Friends! A Keyboard Conversation® with Jeffrey Siegel, in which the distinguished pianist Siegel provides a lively evening of music and commentary, centered on Gershwin and his contemporaries Bernstein, Copland, and Joplin. Presenting another kind of history, the noted feminist and author Gloria Steinem will present a lecture at Three Stages on March 7.

The Joffrey Ballet's long list of "firsts" includes having been the first dance company to perform at the White House, the first to appear on TV, the first classical company to go multi-media, and the first and only dance company to appear on the cover of Time. Now, the first dance company to perform in Three Stages (March 4) is "exceptionally strong and buoyant" (Chicago Sun-Times), bringing an unforgettable evening of ballet to the capital region.

The strictly musical offerings in 2011 are a diverse landscape of Americana, jazz, popular culture and ancient traditions. If Johnny Cash is perhaps a name forever tied to Folsom, the presentation of his daughter Rosanne Cash in Three Stages is most apropos. In performing selections from her CD "The List," Ms. Cash will cover essential country music derived from a list her father compiled for her as she prepared to join his road show following her graduation from high school. She performs at Three Stages on March 20. On February 19, the many, many performing spaces within the 80,000 square-foot facility will be put to good use, as The Jazz Mafia take over the building. More than 40 musicians will perform a hip-hop symphony ("one of the most exciting new works of American music in years," www.examiner.com) and Mafia component groups will perform throughout the building. On March 12, world-renowned jazz guitarist/vocalist John Pizzarelli and his wife, Broadway star Jessica Molaskey, perform together ("as good as it gets in any entertainment medium" New York Times). On April 2, arguably the most famous gospel choir in the country, the Harlem Gospel Choir, takes the stage for a stirring performance of faith, hope and inspiration.

If percussion is the discussion, look no further. With ScrapArtsMusic (an "ultra-physical and visually riveting" performance," Philadelphia Inquirer) on February 18 and TAIKOPROJECT ("This ain't your mama's taiko; it may be your hip younger cousin's," LA Weekly) on June 4, the more percussive side of music is presented from both its modern iteration (ScrapArtsMusic is akin to Blue Man Group and Stomp) and the ancient traditions of taiko, with both artists mixing bold elements of theatricality into their performances.

With a firm commitment to community and accessibility, Three Stages is proud to present Rickie Lee Jones on May 26, in a live performance of her first two - and perhaps most popular - albums. And in a top-notch tribute to a classic band, The Pink Floyd Experience brings a massive light show, six musicians and 12-foot pig blimp to the 850-seat Stage One on March 30.

Three Stages is rich in presentations for the whole family. The Aluminum Show comes to Three Stages on March 6, bringing inanimate objects - pipes, coils, and sphere - to life. The winners of the elite "International Magicians of the Year" award, Spencers Theatre of Illusion "have taken the art of illusion to an entirely new level" (St. Louis Post-Dispatch); they perform on April 3. Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater Co. bounces, juggles and mimes... in life-sized balloon suits. "Helium light and hilarious" (New York Times) on May 28.
