Which Dish Wowed The Crowd?
By Rocco 'Boss Hog' Loosbrock
In Pittsburgh, bacon reigns king and on November 6th one lucky contestant was crowned bacon royalty. This past weekend Sugardale Foods presented The Great Sugardale BAC-ON!, a bacon cooking competition.
Contestants cooked on stage in front of thousands of people at GoodTaste! Pittsburgh. And as if the crowd wasn't enough pressure, celebrities like Spike Mendelsohn (Top Chef: Season 4) and Claire Robinson (Food Network) were on the panel of judges that evaluated the final dishes!

The contestants competed in three categories: Appetizer/Sides/Entertaining, Ready Bacon®, and Main Dish. Each category winner faced-off at the end of the day for the title of Grand Bac-On! Champion and the first prize of $3,000.

As the crowd counted down the final ten seconds on the clock, the contestants strategically positioned their garnishes on the plates. TIME'S UP!
The judges were ready to evaluate the bacony dishes. Claire Robinson even exclaimed "I love my job!" as the plates were lined up in front of her.
"And the Grand BAC-ON Champion is... Olga Watkins with the Bacon and Blueberry Salad!" With contestants entering unique recipes from around the nation including New York, Florida, Colorado, California, and Texas, it was a long-shot that a home-town Pittsburgher would win the competition. However, Olga Watkins had her eyes set on the prize. Her Bacon and Blueberry Salad wowed the judges in both rounds.
