Solar Components' JOOS Orange Personal Solar Charger Wins Best of Innovations Award for the 2011 CES International Trade Show in the Eco-Design and Sustainable Technology Category
CAMPBELL, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Solar Components today announced that its JOOS Orange personal solar
charger has been selected as the 2011 International CES Best
of Innovations award winner in the Eco-Design and Sustainable
Technology product category.
The JOOS Orange(TM) personal solar charger from Solar Components has won the "Best of Innovations" Award in the Eco-Design and Sustainable Technology category for the 2011 International CES trade show, effectively making the Orange the most "green" product at the upcoming show. Roughly the size of a paperback, weighing 24 ounces and priced at $99.95 (US), the Orange has a 20 watt hour Lithium ion polymer battery and can fully charge more than four smart phones. www.solarjoos.com (Photo: Business Wire)
According to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), producer of the
prestigious Innovations Design and Engineering Awards, the JOOS Orange
received the top score in the Eco-Design and Sustainable Technology
category, besting all other products entered in the category this year.
"We are honored to win a Best of Innovations award and would like to
express our gratitude to CEA," said Jamie Bullen, CEO of Solar
Components. "And to be tapped as the top winner in the Eco-Design and
Sustainable Technology category means the CES judges feel we have the
best 'green' product at the 2011 CES trade show. This award belongs to
our design and engineering team, and speaking for management, we are
very proud of their accomplishment."
Roughly the size of a paperback (5.8- x 8.6- x 0.8-inches) and weighing
24 ounces, the JOOS Orange is the world's most powerful personal solar
charger. Unlike other solar chargers designed to only work under ideal
conditions, the Orange turns sunlight into electrical power:
The Orange delivers more than 2.5 hours of cell phone talk time for
every hour of sunlight, making it up to 20 times (20X) more efficient
than other solar chargers. Additionally, the 20 watt hour Lithium-ion
polymer battery of the Orange holds enough power to fully charge more
than four smart phones (or six standard cell phones). The suggested
retail price for the Orange is $99.95.
"We've started initial sales of the Orange and expect to be in full
production by January 2011," Bullen said. "Clearly, that's later than we
had expected, but that's what happens when you're a start-up trying to
create the very 'best
(personal) solar charger' on the planet."
The Orange will be on display in booth 1035J of the North Hall of the
Las Vegas Convention Center at the 2011 International CES trade show,
Jan. 6-9, 2011.
