Industry Influential Joins Team of Assertion-Based Verification EDA Start-Up

Zocalo Tech, Inc, an Electronic Design Automation (EDA) company based in Austin, TX and focused on Assertion-Based Verification (ABV) productivity software, announced that Michel Courtoy, an experienced EDA executive and angel investor, has joined the company's Board of Directors.

"Michel is based in Silicon Valley and brings a broad view to our company, as our first outside Board member," remarked Howard Martin, Zocalo Tech President. "We have all known Michel for a long time, and have been impressed with his experience, career path and in-depth knowledge of what it takes to get an EDA start-up off the ground and running successfully. His extensive marketing experience is helping us introduce software products that increase electronic design productivity and improve quality where it counts -- early in the cycle."

"Zocalo is on a roll and I am very pleased to join the Board and my colleagues at this critical time," Courtoy added. "Assertion-Based Verification promises to improve design but until Zocalo Tech's Zazz software came on the scene, it lacked the right catalyst that would make it easy to adopt."

Michel Courtoy began his career in design engineering and software engineering at Intel. He managed product marketing for layout verification software at Cadence Design Systems and held executive positions at Quickturn Design Systems, Osprey Design Systems (which he also co-founded), Aptix Corporation and Frequency Technology. As vice president of marketing for Silicon Perspective, Courtoy created the market for silicon virtual prototyping and was a key player in the company's acquisition by Cadence in 2001. He served as a vice president at Cadence Design Systems before becoming the CEO at Certess. He led Certess through sales growth to a successful acquisition by SpringSoft in 2009. He also is a member of the Board of Directors of Edxact, DeFacTo and X5 Systems. He holds a BSEE from Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium; an MSEE from University of California, San Diego; and an MBA from Santa Clara University, California.

Zocalo Tech's Zazz™ software simplifies and supports the adoption of an ABV methodology to improve electronic design and Intellectual Property (IP) quality and increase verification productivity. Zazz addresses the major issues that have kept ABV from wide scale acceptance.
