PenFed & Diebold Partnership Provides ATM Service to Independence Way(TM) Rehabilitation Center at DCVA Hospital

PenFed recently partnered with Diebold to provide an ATM to the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Washington DC for use in the new Independence Way™ rehabilitation center.

A Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony were held on October 14, 2010. PenFed and Diebold executives and employees involved in the project were in attendance.

Independence Way™ is a rehabilitation environment simulating "real-life" so that Veterans with various medical ailments can train for community re-entry within the safe and therapeutic setting of the Medical Center. The center is the first of its kind in the VA system, and Independence Way™ is a unique rehabilitation tool for all Veterans, including those who have neurological conditions that affect mobility, and those who have suffered stroke.

"PenFed is excited to partner with Diebold and the DCVA's Independence Way™ to give back to those individuals who sacrificed so much to protect our freedom," says Betsy Henkel, Executive VP, PenFed. "This arrangement is a wonderful example of how various organizations can all come together to combine their resources for a great cause."

The ATM, which dispenses play money, is used by therapists to teach Veterans in the Polytrauma Program how to perform transactions. Other training tools include a grocery store, Metro system map, and motor vehicle simulator.
