People to Obama: You Work For The People, Not The Other Way Around

By

If ever a loud message was sent, to The President, Congress, Senate, Governors, judges, attorneys general, sheriffs, school boards and anyone else elected to office, one was sent today. This loud message must surely stand tall amongst other such messages.

The message to The President was simple. The people elect you to do their work and they will re-elect you if you do good, or curse you if you do evil.

All who are elected can choose to keep listening to their constituents or they can do as they please for four years, listening only to their chosen advisors, looking out only for themselves.

Mr President you are given leeway to do your best. Sometimes you will make mistakes, but you have the opportunity to correct them. Sometimes things will not go exactly as planned, but you have the opportunity to make corrections.

You have a large team to work with, consisting of all elected officials, no matter their party affiliation and you have your hand-picked best and brightest. Another part of your team, which you either forgot about or somehow didn't hear, is the American people - all of them.

Perhaps the walls of the White House are too thick, too well-insulated, and you didn't hear what was going on. Perhaps your best and bightest team didn't contain enough of the "dissenting voices" you said you would have, or perhaps you filtered them out. Whatever it was, I can tell you there was a noise building outside your walls. The noise was your constituents, the people who put their faith in you, trying to give you some feedback.

Unfortunately, Mr. President, you didn't hear those messages and that is part of your responsibility, exactly at your pay grade. You are the leader, chosen by the people. They expected you to set the direction for the country, ensure that others follow that direction and they expected you not to pass the buck, which should have stopped at your desk.

Do you remember those awful Tea Party people you railed against and ignored? Unfortunately for you, they were actually your constituents, trying deperately to give you some feedback about the path you were taking them along. You ignored your constituents and pandered to millions of people who openly broke the laws of the US.

Mr President, you seemed to forget that the rights of citizens are paramount and the rights of lawbreakers from other countries are human rights - the right to be treated fairly - but not the right to continue breaking the law, nor to be rewarded with citizenship for doing so.

You stood up for citizens who hadn't had anyone stand up for them for a long time, but then you passed the buck and the execution was a miserable failure. You couldn't get past the finger-pointing that served you so well in your own election and that sapped your power, made you into a weakling who can only blame others.

You made great speeches in 2007 and you made a lot of sense to people who wanted change. They voted for you in 2008. They put their trust in you. You blew it because you didn't pause to listen to their feedback. You had a wonderful time in the White House, you flew around the country and around the world saying good things about tyrants and bad things about your constituents, never once stopping to listen to that deafening feedback.

As you read the newspaper now, you will discover that your constituents knew a sure-fire way to get your attention. All they had to do was stop shouting and complaining and go to the voting booth and shred your House and Senate teams - and they did just that today.

Although it is a pity it had to come to this, I hope they have your attention now! Never waste a good crisis.
