Organic Motion Powers World's First Real-Time Intercontinental Visual Arts Performance
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Today Organic Motion, a leading computer vision company, announced that
its technology will power the world's first real-time intercontinental
visual arts performance, to be held during the 2010 International
Digital Media Arts Association Conference in Vancouver, Canada, on
Thursday Nov. 4, 2010. Entitled "CONNECTING
the EDGES: An Inter-Continental LiveVibe," the performance will
connect dancers and visual artists from the corners of the globe, in
Canada, Japan and the United States.
"This event presents an amazing opportunity to showcase the power of how
people can collaborate and what they can create with computers, when you
completely remove interface barriers to rely only on human motion," said
Andrew Tschesnok, CEO, Organic Motion. "This performance emphasizes how
technology brings society closer together - even across geographical
boundaries - and how it can be the foundation for creating exciting ways
for us to communicate and experience things together."
Leveraging Organic Motion's breakthrough computer vision technology,
"SAME SPACE at the SAME TIME" (the third act), joins together artists
and engineers located across the world for a unique visual arts
experience. By stepping into Organic Motion's markerless motion capture
systems located around the world, dancers will be instantly connected to
one another in a virtual space. Without having to put on any special
tracking devices, the artists will then have their every movement
animated in real-time, all performing in the choreographed virtual
reality production. Attendees will be able to watch both the live video
of performers, as well as the animated versions, as they occur in
real-time.
"As a part of our 'In Common: Time' series, we wanted to create an event
that would demonstrate a globally-distributed network joining
multi-cultural performers moving and interacting in the most natural way
possible, and to join them in real-time into a shared virtual
environment," said James Oliverio, Director, University of Florida
Digital Worlds Institute and multiple Emmy Award winner. "CONNECTING the
EDGES will showcase how technologies like Organic Motion's are helping
digital arts education, visual performance, and creativity to rapidly
evolve in a compelling and intuitive human-centric trajectory."
The performance is organized and produced by the University of Florida's
Digital Worlds Institute, in collaboration with the Emily Carr
University, Zero C Seven of Japan, IOCOM of Chicago, and Emmy
Award-winning animator, Mark Butler.
CONNECTING the EDGES begins at 5 p.m. PDT, and the global audience can
watch and participate on their mobile phones or other network-connected
device, live at: www.LiveVibeTV.com.
