THQ Launches Three Mega-Unique Game Experiences with the Release of Megamind Video Games
AGOURA HILLS, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - THQ Inc. (NASDAQ:THQI) announced today that the video game adaptations
of DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc.'s (NASDAQ: DWA) Megamind , the
highly anticipated feature film that comes to theaters on November 5th,
are now available on the Xbox 360 video game and
entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation3 computer
entertainment system, PSP (PlayStation®Portable)
system, the Wii system and Nintendo DS family of hand-held systems.
Additionally, the console games feature the voice of actor Jonah Hill (Megamind,
Get Him to the Greek, Superbad), as his character from the
feature film. The Megamind
Mobile Game application is also available on the iPhone, iPod Touch and
major carriers worldwide.
A first for video game adaptations of animated feature films, three
separate and unique video games have been built specifically to take
advantage of features of the platform on which it is played. Packed with
new characters, new challenges and new adventures to deliver distinct
gameplay experiences for fans of the film's blue Mega Hero, Megamind
games are rated E10+ for everyone 10 and older and are available for
the suggested retail prices of $39.99 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system,
Wii), $29.99 (Nintendo DS), $19.99 (PSP), and $4.99 (iPhone).
Taking cues from the over-the-top action of the film's
supervillain-turned-superhero storyline, Megamind
offers three times the video gameplay action. In Megamind:
Ultimate Showdown (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system) players
operate a variety of mega-gadgets & build ingenious inventions as they
face off against vile villains including Tighten and the newly formed
Doom Syndicate in exhilarating single or two-player, co-op gameplay. Megamind:
Mega Team Unite (Wii) lets four players choose from nine
playable characters to form the ultimate Mega Team and utilize their
super abilities and power ups to defend the city. Handheld gamers can
play as Megamind
anywhere they choose with Megamind: The Blue Defender
(Nintendo DS, PSP system). Utilize and power up high-tech blasters that
grow stronger with every shot to help Megamind
take the city back from his own reprogrammed Brainbots and the Doom
Syndicate. Megamind: Bad. Blue. Brilliant (Mobile
SmartPhones) is a side-scrolling adventure following the handheld
platforms, where Megamind
must collect blue energy vials in order to help face off against enemies.
"The action, humor and dynamic characters presented in Megamind
lend themselves perfectly to a variety of gameplay mechanics," said
Martin Good, Executive Vice President of THQ's Kids, Family, Casual
Games, and Global Online Services. "It's very exciting to take these
qualities and deliver multiple interactive options for an emerging
audience of Megamind
fans, giving them the choice on how they'd prefer to continue on in the
rich universe created by DreamWorks Animation."
About the Video Games
Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system: In this two-player,
cooperative action-adventure game, a sudden crime wave has hit the city,
calling Megamind
into action. As Megamind,
players must defend the city after his untested and unstable inventions
are stolen by a group of new enemies called the Doom Syndicate. To
defeat these vile villains, players will have to operate a variety of
Mega-Gadgets, including Tesla Gloves, the Battlesuit and Sticky Boots,
as well as build ingenious inventions such as the Mega Essence Tracker
and the Bio Essence Neutralizer. The game also offers five side
mission mini-games and cooperative play with one of Megamind's
trusty Brainbots.
Wii system: In this classic brawler game, players can choose from
up to nine characters from the film and beyond to form a four-player
"Mega Squad." The extensive multiplayer campaign includes Competitive,
Cooperative and team-based gameplay modes. In addition, artificial
intelligence (AI) players can be used to keep the four-player action
challenging and fun!
Nintendo DS and PSP system: In this on-the-go mega-adventure
game, players set out as Megamind,
using an arsenal of blasters to smash and blast their way through
enemies. Players can switch blasters on a whim in order to put an end to
the city's crime wave.
Mobile Smart Phones: In this action side-scrolling platform
adventure game, players continue Megamind's
battle with the Doom Syndicate on their iPhone, using the De-gun to
blast out enemies and uncover blue energy vials for power-ups.

About Megamind
Megamind is the most brilliant super-villain the world has ever
known...and the least successful. Over the years, he has tried to conquer
Metro City in every imaginable way - each attempt, a colossal failure
thanks to the caped superhero known as "Metro Man," until the day
Megamind actually defeats him in the throes of one of his botched evil
plans. Suddenly, the fate of Metro City is threatened when a new villain
arrives and chaos runs rampant, leaving everyone to wonder: Can the
world's biggest "mind" actually be the one to save the day? Megamind,
starring Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill and Brad Pitt, is
directed by Tom McGrath and produced by Lara Breay and Denise Nolan
Cascino.
