Overture Extends MaestrOS Service Engine to First Carrier Ethernet Edge Platform, Introduces Powerful ISG 400 for Ethernet over TDM
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Overture Networks, the industry's trusted Carrier Ethernet solutions
provider, today introduced the ISG 400 Carrier Ethernet edge platform in
order to dramatically simplify the transition from traditional TDM
infrastructure to an all-optical Ethernet network, while supporting one
of the industry's most sophisticated service differentiation and
performance assurance feature sets. With the ISG 400, Overture has
leveraged MaestrOS , its Carrier Ethernet service engine, to develop a
third generation of Carrier Ethernet edge platforms, ultimately
extending powerful features and applications to the subscriber edge.
The modular ISG 400 supports a wide range of network interfaces for
delivering Carrier Ethernet services over existing DS3 or SONET/SDH
infrastructure in order to meet the increasing demands from business
services and mobile backhaul. Overture Networks designed this flexible
Carrier Ethernet edge platform to help providers differentiate their
services, reach customers on-net or off-net with a single platform, and
enable sophisticated hierarchical quality-of-service and up to eight
classes of service for each Ethernet Virtual Circuit. The ISG 400 can
also help service providers troubleshoot and report on their service
performance with link level Ethernet OAM (802.3ah), service level
Ethernet OAM (802.1ag and Y.1731), and support for the latest MEF UNI
2.2 E-LMI specifications.
In addition, the ISG 400 enables a smooth transition to all-optical
Ethernet by a simple connection change from the TDM interface module to
the built-in Ethernet network interfaces, making it the industry's most
cost-effective, operationally flexible solution for delivering Carrier
Ethernet services today and well into the future.
"As the network becomes optimized for IP-based applications, service
providers want options for business services and mobile backhaul that
use a combination of on-net and off-net access to reach their
customers," stated Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder for
Infonetics Research. "In my evaluation, Overture's ISG 400 gives service
providers a new tool they can use to both increase revenue and gain
operational simplicity."
"Service providers are increasingly focused on the rapid transition
toward Carrier Ethernet networks to address today's tactical needs with
an eye on tomorrow's strategic goals-all with the highest quality and
the lowest possible operating expense. We gathered over 1500
requirements from our leading global service provider customers and
incorporated what we learned into the ISG 400 to ensure the performance,
flexibility and service differentiation that our customers require
today. And we focused on meeting their technical and operational needs
going forward," said Dave Stehlin, president at Overture Networks. "As
service providers look for ways to differentiate their services in this
highly-competitive landscape, the ISG 400 gives them all the tools they
need to go to market with a compelling service offering."
