Prof. Olivier Traxer Awarded the Arthur D. Smith Endourology Lectureship
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Olivier Traxer, professor of urology at the University of Paris 6
(Pierre et Marie Curie), was selected as the 2010 recipient of the
Arthur D. Smith Endourology Lectureship known as the "Arthur" award.
Prof. Traxer received the award at the 28th
World Congress on Endourology (WCE) in Chicago for his many
contributions to the field of endourology, specifically his research and
expertise in urinary stone disease and kidney stone management, as well
as his dedication to education and improving the quality of treatment
for patients. Presented by the Endourological Society's awards
committee, the prize is funded by a grant from Cook
Medical in honor of Dr. Arthur D. Smith's lifetime of achievements
and contributions to the practice of endourology.

After training in general urology in Paris, Prof. Traxer did a research
fellowship at Southwestern Medical School at the University of Texas,
training under Professors Charles Y.C. Pak, Dr. Margaret Sue Pearle and
Dr. Jeffrey A. Cadeddu. Prof. Traxer then began focusing primarily on
endourology and stone disease, publishing more than 130 articles on
those topics and participating in 200 oral and poster presentations at
international and national congresses. Notably, Prof. Traxer serves as a
member of the European Association of Urology (EAU), the French
Association of Urology (AFU) and the Endourological Society.
Currently, Prof. Traxer is working on developing an endourology and
stone center at Hôpitol Tenon in Paris, France. Throughout his career,
he has remained devoted to furthering education, participating in
international education programs such as the French Urological College
(ECU) and the European School of Urology (ESU).
"I am truly honored by this recognition from the Endourological Society.
The Arthur award is an important achievement and it's extremely
rewarding to be acknowledged for my work," said Prof. Traxer. "I remain
committed to ongoing advancements in the field of endourology,
specifically as it relates to urinary stone disease. I look forward to
continuing this research and furthering education in urology."
Supported by an annual grant from Cook Medical, the Arthur award was
first bestowed on the occasion of Dr. Smith's departure as president of
the Endourological Society at the 2004 WCE in Mumbai, India. He has
remained as one of the leading innovators in the field of minimally
invasive urological surgery, pioneering several new operative techniques
used in percutaneous nephrolithotomy, treatment of kidney stones,
percutaneous treatment of transitional cell carcinoma and endopyelotomy.
Urologists are eligible for the award within the first 10 years of
practice after completion of a urology residency or fellowship.
" Professor Traxer's commitment to advancing endourological patient care
is unparalleled," said Jean-Marc Creissel, global strategic business
unit leader for Cook Medical's Urology division. "His contributions to
education and medical advances in stone disease and stone management in
his native France and around the world have been critical. We cannot
think of a more deserving recipient of the Arthur Award, and know Prof.
Traxer will continue his dedicated, exceptional work in this field."
