Love it or hate it, there is no denying it is one of the most popular shows on TV. Of course those looks of surprise on Simon Cowell's face are false, he knows exactly what to expect from the contestants when they perform for the "first" time.
Everything is stage managed to the last detail and you can be pretty sure Simon knows who is going to win the competition from day one. Sure the audience phone in to place their votes, but do we get to see proof of how many votes each contestant got?
Anyway, Saturday was the first live show and this evening (Sunday) we found out who were the first two to go.
The fact that Wagner (pronounced Vagner) Carrilho made it through to the next round was a good example of how questionable the voting is. Either the public voted for him as a joke, or the people who run the show kept him in for amusement (just as they did with Jedward).
Italian diva Nicolo Festa (no relation to an uncle with the same name) may not have been everyone's cup of tea, but he did sing better than Wagner (who doesn't?). However, he was the first to go.
F.Y.D. and Katie Waissel had to sing again and let the judges decide who would stay and who would join Nicolo. Personally, I thought F.Y.D. performed the best, but the judges did not agree and Katie managed to hang on for at least another week.
ADULT HALLOWEEN COSTUMES
I have listed my favourites (in order of preference) below and it will be interesting to see how close I get:
1) Matt Cardle: Seems like a nice guy and has a really unusual voice. He is also the bookies favourite.
2) Mary Byrne: Not the youngest contestant, but has a great voice. Despite her age, she has a twinkle in her eyes and was probably pretty hot when she was younger (I suspect she may still be quite hot, even now)
3) Rebecca Ferguson: Nice singer and pretty girl. She has a voice that you don't hear all that often anymore.
4) Aiden Grimshaw: Has a look that the girls should like and not a bad voice to go with it.
5) Cher Lloyd: She has quite a presence, when she gets it right, and could do well (if the public don't take her confidence the wrong way).
6) Treyc Cohen: Powerful voice and not without a chance.
7) John Adeleye: He already looks as if he has been doing this a long time. He may not win, but he has a future in the music business.
8) Paije Richardson: Likeable guy with a reasonable voice. I hope he does well so he can avoid going back to sweeping up popcorn!
9) Katie Waissel: Not sure about her, I think she needs to improve a lot more before she can consider herself a serious contender.
10) Belle Amie: If their performance on Saturday was anything to go by, they have no chance (they didn't seem to be singing in harmony). However, maybe they will improve?
11) Storm Lee: Unusual looking guy. His voice is OK, but nothing special. Probably good enough to sing in some small clubs, but not really Star material.
12) One Direction: Not quite sure what Simon sees in this group, they sounded very out of tune on Saturday. I think they can do better (with some practice), but ought to dump Zain Malik who is not doing them any favours with his flat voice.
13) Diva Fever: Sure they are fun to watch, but I find them a little too camp for my liking and only one of them can actually sing.
14) Wagner Carrilho: OMG!!! If he makes it through next week, I think the public should demand a steward's enquiry!
Regardless of the result, at least I have Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole to look at each week, so its not all bad.
