Ninth Annual Wings Wheels & Rotors, Los Alamitos Army Airfield

Wings Wheels Rotors and Expo is back again this year and better than ever. 2010 will be the ninth annual WWRE and this local event has grown to be one of the premiere events in Southern California. WWRE 2010 is an open house and family event sponsored by the Los Alamitos Area Chamber of Commerce and the California National Guards, Joint Forces Training Base. All activities will be on the flight line on Los Alamitos Army Airfield (KSLI)

Los Alamitos Army Airfield is the last remaining military airfield in the greater LA/Orange County areas with the longest runways in the OC. The JFTB is also the disaster support area for S. California.

On display will be military aircraft, including a USAF Reserve C17 Globermaster III, helicopters, radio controlled airplanes, many cars, war birds along with public safety, first responder and military equipment. Aircraft flyovers are planned including aircraft static displays.

Wings Wheels & Rotors will have various civilian and public safety helicopters with fire, police and military rotorcraft including some of the media aircraft seen daily on the air around SoCal. Along with the airplanes and warbirds are helicopter flights in civilian "choppers" for $45 for a trip by Adventure Helicopters and free flights in general aviation airplanes by the Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles for youth between the ages of 8 and 17 years who are interested in flying and aviation.

Additionally, purchase a flight on Executive Sweet, a World War Two B-25J Mitchell medium bomber and also meet the Tuskegee airmen of WW2 fame. A parajump is planned from a Douglas C-53 Skytrooper.

This classic aircraft is often referred to as a "goony bird", the log book for this aircraft flown by the Commemorative Air Force, shows it actually dropped Army paratroopers on D-day, 6 June 1944!

The largest event will be a huge car show including custom cars, new autos, motorcycles, roadsters, antique vehicles and hot rods and you can still enter your car. Awards to be presented for best cars. There will be many events for the family at WWRE 2010 along with a Kids Korner.

Additionally, there will be food, including breakfast, vendors, displays, demonstrations, flybys plus music. There will be several bands including the 40th Infantry Division Band and other activities on Sunday, 24 October.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the JFTB Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) funds for armed forces personnel on the base. There is plenty of room on the flight line to display your car.

See www.WWRExpo.net for those details. Sponsor opportunities and vendor space available.
