Steelers Fans Get Free Water Taxi Rides to Heinz Field on Game Day

  Share With Friends

PITTSBURGH - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Pittsburgh Steelers fans can hitch a free water taxi ride to Heinz Field when the six-time Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers face the Atlanta Falcons Sept. 12.

The free rides are courtesy of Nationwide Insurance, one of the family of sponsors of the Pittsburgh Steelers this season.

"This is a great opportunity for Nationwide to connect with Steelers fans in an atmosphere of friendly camaraderie and sportsmanship," said John Aman, Associate Vice President, Strategic Sponsorships. "This illustrates Nationwide's commitment to supporting communities where we do business and to giving best of class service to all of our customers."

Two Nationwide-branded taxis will shuttle fans for free across the Allegheny River. The taxis leave from:

  • 6th Street dock under the Roberto Clemente Bridge near the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel
  • 23rd Street dock in the Strip District

The free taxis will start running roughly three hours before the start of the game and return trips will start at the game's end and run for one hour. Drop off is at the main gate of Heinz Field.

Trips aboard these two taxis operated by Pittsburgh Water Limo usually cost anywhere from $5 to $10.

Nationwide's Pittsburgh Steelers sponsorship includes free ferry rides that will be offered at the following Steelers games: Oct. 3, Baltimore Ravens; Oct, 17, Cleveland Browns; Nov. 14, New England Patriots; and Nov. 21, Oakland Raiders.

"Nationwide is proud to offer 'The World's Free-est Ferry Ride in the World' to these fervent fans," Aman said. "The ride is just one of Nationwide's sponsorship activities that fans will find on game day that are built on the 'World's Greatest' theme led by Nationwide's World's Greatest Spokesperson in the World."

As part of the Nationwide sponsorship, Pittsburgh Steelers fans will have the chance to participate in the World's Greatest Shout Out, a fan contest for Steelers enthusiasts to verbally support their team, be filmed and broadcast on the Jumbotron during the game. A $25,000 grand prize will be awarded for the World's Greatest Shoutout at the end of the season. This contest starts Sept. 12.
