Despite Political Rhetoric, There Are Still 50,000 Troops in Iraq

Despite So-Called Pullout, 50,000 U.S.Troops Still Need Your Support

Move America Forward today reports:

American 'Advisors' Stepped in to Help When Terrorists Launched Attack on Iraq Army Hq!

Despite President Obama's claim of turning the page and fulfilling his campaign promise, the 50,000 American troops still left in Iraq as "advisors and assisters" are working as hard as ever, still in harm's way - keeping terrorists from gaining a foothold in the Middle East by toppling the fragile Iraqi democracy.

Over the weekend our troops still in Iraq were doing less advising but plenty of assisting, as Iraqis were attacked by a combined suicide-bombing and small arms assault.

American soldiers helped Iraqi troops battle insurgents in downtown Baghdad on Sunday, repelling a major attack in the heart of the capital five days after President Obama declared an end to U.S. combat operations.

At least 18 people were killed and 39 injured (no Americans hurt) in the midday attack in which a group of suicide bombers and gunmen attempted to storm the Iraqi army's east Baghdad headquarters.

>> Los Angeles Times, September 5, 2010

Our troops joined the battle and repelled the attackers, but so soon after the so-called "pullout" the incident was a huge reminder that there are still a considerable number of troops in Iraq and that they continue to do a dangerous job.

Now - more than ever - remembering our troops that remain in Iraq is crucial. Focus by the politicians this fall will be shifted to other topics such as their own re-election efforts and the war in Afghanistan. As the numbers of troops are brought down in Iraq, we need to step up to keep them at the forefront in our support efforts, keeping their morale strong.

Those troops need our support! They are still facing danger in Iraq, still being called upon to fight Al Qaeda. Send a care package right now to give some much needed supplies to a squad or a whole brigade.

These treats and supplies make surviving a long deployment much easier and each comes with your personalized message of support and gratitude.
