Rossi Urges Patience and Two Phase Approach to Ontario Place-CNE Merger
TORONTO, ONTARIO - (Marketwire - Sept. 3, 2010) - Rocco Rossi has issued the following statement in response to George Smitherman's proposal to combine Ontario Place and the Canadian National Exhibition.
"I support the creation of a single, unified Ontario Place and CNE to exploit the full potential of these two wonderful waterfront attractions, but in his haste Mr. Smitherman risks throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Contrary to Smitherman's understanding, a sparkling transformation of Ontario Place is already underway. Attempting to merge the two waterfront parks now would delay that project by at least a year and probably longer, given that prior attempts to merge these two parks have all ended in failure. We have no guarantee of success.
We need to be patient and proceed one step at a time. Let's revitalize Ontario Place for a new generation of visitors and tourists. It only stands to reason that if we can succeed at Ontario Place, revitalization of the CNE grounds will quickly follow."
