Infonetics Research: Cisco leads cable broadband equipment market to strong second quarter

  Share With Friends

Market research firm Infonetics Research (www.twitter.com/infonetics) released its second quarter (2Q10) CMTS and Edge QAM Hardware and Subscribers report, which tracks cable modem termination systems (CMTS), edge quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) channels, and cable broadband subscribers.

ANALYST NOTE
"Cisco led a strong second quarter in CMTS port shipments and revenue, capturing 58% of worldwide revenue. Cable operators continue to add both downstream and upstream capacity for DOCSIS 3.0 and some early IPTV deployments in Europe. Edge QAMs also saw an 8% revenue increase, driven by growth in video on demand and switched digital video deployments," notes Jeff Heynen, directing analyst for broadband access at Infonetics Research.

CMTS AND EDGE QAM MARKET HIGHLIGHTS

  • The worldwide CMTS and edge QAM market grew 10% in 2Q10 over 1Q10

  • The main drivers behind the quarter's growth include strong demand for DOCSIS 3.0 channels and the push to lay the groundwork to deliver IPTV services

  • The quarter's growth came from North America (+17%), EMEA (+23%), and Asia Pacific (+72%)

  • The Central and Latin America region (CALA) showed a predictable decline on the heels of triple-digit growth in the previous quarter

  • Harmonic, thanks to its ongoing VOD deployments with operators worldwide, returned to the top spot among edge QAM vendors

REPORT SYNOPSIS
Infonetics' CMTS and edge QAM report provides worldwide and regional vendor market share, market size and forecasts through 2014 for standard and wideband cable broadband subscribers; upstream and downstream CMTS revenue and ports; and edge QAM channels and revenue by application, including linear broadcast TV, video on demand (VOD), unicast video, switched digital video, M-CMTS and Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS).

The report tracks ARRIS, BigBand, Casa Systems, Cisco Systems, Ericsson, GoBack TV, Harmonic, LiquidXStream, Motorola, RGB Networks, Teleste, and Vecima.
