Legion Lauds Buyer's Service, Convention Appearance
MILWAUKEE - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Past National Commander Clarence E. Hill of The American Legion
expressed his deep appreciation for yesterday's appearance by Rep. Steve
Buyer, R-Ind., at the organization's 92nd National Convention
here.
"The American Legion is grateful for Rep. Buyer's long service to this
country, both as a soldier and a member of Congress," Hill said. "His
speech before our Convention was warmly received. Unfortunately, an
earlier statement by our press office characterized the address as
'sometimes tinged with bitterness.' As the national commander, I feel
the characterization was unfair and out of order. I personally apologize
for the mischaracterization of his remarks. It was a very unfortunate
mistake, the cause of which has been corrected. For 18 years we have
worked side-by-side with Rep. Buyer to improve the lives of America's
veterans. The final word on Rep. Buyer should be that his has been a
highly distinguished military and congressional career."
