Magento Appoints Software Veterans Michel Goossens and Jary Carter to Spearhead Global Expansion
LOS ANGELES & BRUSSELS - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Magento,
the world's fastest-growing eCommerce platform, has appointed Michel
Goossens as vice president and general manager of its EMEA operations,
and Jary Carter as vice president of North America sales operations. The
two hires underscore Magento's rapid expansion, with an increase in
employee count from 100 to 180 and a forecasted 300 percent sales growth
over the course of 2010.
Goossens joins Magento from Red Hat (NYSE:RHT), where he was vice
president EMEA of the organization's JBoss division. He joined JBoss in
2005 to lead the EMEA sales operations and further boost the company's
explosive revenue growth. Before joining JBoss, Goossens founded
SilverStream Software's EMEA operations. As vice president for EMEA, he
actively contributed to a successful IPO and impressive revenue growth
before its acquisition by Novell (Nasdaq: NOVL) in 2002.
Carter joins Magento from open source enterprise content management
system vendor, Alfresco. As Alfresco's Americas director of channels, he
led the Americas partner organization, as well as the territory sales
team. During his time at Alfresco, he grew channel-driven revenue by an
average of more than 500 percent per year. Prior to joining Alfresco,
Carter held roles that included senior sales positions with Omniture and
Novell.
"Magento has grown in an incredibly short time to over 60,000 customers
worldwide, and counts some of the planet's leading retailers, innovators
and brands among its customers. We needed to hire executives who have a
proven track record in taking successful software brands and leading
them into the next stage of their evolution," said Roy Rubin, CEO of
Magento. "Michel and Jary bring the sales and professional leadership
that Magento needs as we continue on our mission of enabling the success
of the worldwide eCommerce ecosystem."
Goossens and Carter will report to Bob Schwartz, president at Magento,
and will be tasked with continuing the company's fast growth on both
sides of the Atlantic, as well as further building its strong channel
program, now numbering over 180 partners worldwide.
"Magento has shown an incredible growth pattern and continues to attract
both the best customers and the top talent, so I'm excited to be joining
the company at this stage of its development," said Michel Goossens,
vice president, EMEA at Magento. "The company is profitable, has an
outstanding roster of top-tier clients and continues to deliver
world-class products. I'm confident that my appointment will underscore
Magento's commitment to supporting partners, developers and customers
worldwide and I look forward to continuing the company's success and
building its loyal base throughout EMEA."
