Pilot Project for Survivors and People in Distress due to the Sange Village Catastrophy in the Democratic Republic of Congo

OTTAWA, ONTARIO - (Marketwire - Sept. 1, 2010) - The Sange community established in Canada, and other Canadians, are organizing a fundraising and gathering resources to help survivors of the Sange disaster. The goal is to meet the demands of the notice of emergency from the population in Sange, located 45 km north of Uvira in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The community is appealing to churches and associations to join them. The Ottawa based DSFIENA humanitarian organization responded to the call.

The goal is to find, among Canadian institutions, financial and material resources for a pilot project to support survivors living in this critical condition - about 45 wounded have lost their mobility, about 290 new orphans need help, 103 widows who lost everything and hundreds of villagers are severely traumatized, requiring neuropsychiatric care.

On July 2, 2010, the population of Sange fell victim to an accident involving a tanker truck filled with gasoline that exploded, killing about 250 people and leaving many with extreme burns. Despite the intervention of 12 Belgian and Israeli medical specialists since July 14, 2010, those with severe injuries continue to die! The death toll has arrived at 315 dead people.
