RE/MAX CEO Challenges CEOs: "What Will You Promise?" in the Fight against Breast Cancer
DALLAS - (BUSINESS WIRE) - RE/MAX CEO Margaret
Kelly is challenging fellow corporate leaders to create the world's
largest virtual book club and make an impact in the global battle
against breast cancer with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world's
largest breast cancer organization.
Kelly, an 11-year breast cancer survivor and long-time Komen for the
Cure partner, is leading the Passionately
Pink Virtual Book Club and Corporate Challenge program to coincide
with the launch of "Promise
Me," by Nancy G. Brinker, founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the
Cure. "Promise Me" details the 30-year history of the breast cancer
movement since Nancy Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen,
that she would do everything in her power to end the disease that
claimed Suzy's life.
"It was one thing to battle breast cancer myself, but as I watch my
sister Maureen bravely endure the chemotherapy and other treatments,
there are times I'm overwhelmed by a feeling of helplessness," Kelly
said. "Nancy Brinker turned that feeling into her life's work, and I'm
comforted in my own situation knowing that Komen for the Cure is pushing
to advance breast cancer research and reaching out in personal ways that
address the emotional toll the disease can take."
Kelly's Corporate Challenge asks CEOs to launch Virtual Book Clubs at
their companies by making a donation to Komen and buying and reading
"Promise Me." Those with the highest donations by Dec. 31 will win the
Corporate Challenge and an appearance by Brinker to their corporate
campus in 2011. The Corporate Challenge and virtual book club will
operate through Komen's Passionately Pink program. Companies can sign up
at passionatelypink.org.
"Margaret Kelly and the RE/MAX family have been extraordinary friends
and allies in this mission to end a disease that will kill nearly
500,000 women this year alone," Brinker said. "As much progress as we've
made, a woman still dies of breast cancer every 69 seconds. Business
leaders like Margaret truly understand how their support and involvement
can help us change that awful statistic forever."
"Promise Me" by Nancy G. Brinker will be published Sept. 14, 2010 by
Crown Archetype. Companies or individuals who order by Sept. 13 can
receive a free, signed copy of the book to send to a relative or friend.
They can also designate that the free, signed copy be sent to Komen to
distribute to cancer organizations and women newly diagnosed with breast
cancer.
A "Get Started" guide with ideas to promote the Challenge and the full
terms and conditions are available at passionatelypink.org.
