The Anti-Capitalism Movement Unveiled

Philosophical musings of Chic Hollis

Those angry humans against free enterprise, rugged individualism, and fundamental capitalism are not hiding under burqas. They walk freely among us dressed in the traditional costumes of both major political parties. Each idealistic dreamer unknowingly supports the destruction of the original American economic way of life. That threatened way of life most often rewards the daring, the industrious, the creative, and the provident.

The anti-capitalists fervently expect that the new "almighty provider" (known affectionately as "the government") will invent a better way of distributing income, resources, and wealth. Their insidious "plan" has always been open to question, but very few of our elected leaders have bothered to undertake a strong adversarial role in halting their incessant demands for new inadequately funded entitlements.

Today, the vast majority of the members of our democratic society expects the federal government to replace God. Instead of praying to some unresponsive religious deity for succor, intervention, and salvation, the public petulantly begs aid from our government in redressing perceived wrongs, halting uncovered discrimination, and promoting "liberty and justice for all."

Over the years respected, influential political leaders have demonstrated that they have secretly bought into the anti-capitalist "plan." As soon as the idea of paying taxes became generally accepted by the powerless and the unborn who are not allowed to resist the decisions of the rulers holding office, the door was wide open to the persuasive beggars who thrive on the redistribution of income. Recognizing the fact that our governments are manipulated, if not totally controlled by lobbyists and "special interests," helpless citizens feel that government officials, elected or appointed, have absolute control over the supply of money, credit, and the lives of people who have saved or invested their money.

There is very limited restrain on these leaders to refrain from spending the wealth and potential savings legally expropriated from wage earners and bonus recipients in the forms of taxes and fees for the welfare of the general public. This legal theft is promoted in the name of establishing a phony "level" playing field for the handicapped and a more just distribution of the ill-gotten gains of the devious, overcharging, and smug capitalists.

The Tenth Law of the Jungle is: "Covet thy neighbor's possessions: the protein in his body, the carbohydrates stored in his barns, the vitamins hidden in the succulent fruit of his orchards, and the expensive toys that amuse him." This command has been assiduously followed by advertisers who spread the news in the various media about the latest things that should be coveted by the "in" groups whether they have the wherewithal to acquire them or not. Influence peddlers collect their outrageous fees whether their slick advertising produces sales or not.

The Lord's famous blessing of, "Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth," is interpreted by a few industrious workers as "Be a prosperous entrepreneur and multiply," and misinterpreted by the lesser productive humans as, "Be a covetous mendicant and multiply faster." The third part of the command, " Replenish the earth" has been forgotten by almost everyone.

Capitalism may need to be restrained, more intelligently managed, and better supervised, but it shouldn't be destroyed. The exploding debt of the greedy home buyers brought on the Great Recession, and I predict that the government's solution of continuing to spend revenue they don't have will eventually destroy this capitalist nation.

Patriotism is best displayed on the battlefield by dying for the fatherland, not by incurring debt that unborn citizens must find a way to pay someday. If people can't afford food, water, medicine, and healthcare, the patriotic thing for them to do is to lay down their lives for their healthier friends and neighbors. Expecting others to pay for maintaining a failing lifestyle at whatever the cost is selfish and covetous of the means of others to defend their own lives!

The reader may feel uncomfortable with my negative evaluation of the current situation. But the truth be told, the overpopulation of humans on this planet cannot be sustained and any scheme of borrowing from the future to finance the wanton use of scare natural resources is not a viable solution. Untimely human death is definitely tragic, but the inevitable demise of the human race by trying to sustain a counterproductive way of life may be worse than tragic.

Capitalism follows the basic Law of the Jungle which expects the most capable competitors to discover a way to survive, evolve, and profitably utilize the resources available on this planet. Whining anti-capitalist scoundrels are a detriment to the future of this nation or any nation whose naive citizens idealistically ignore the Law of the Jungle and choose to suffer the consequences.

Hopefully, the more ambitious, aggressive, and industrious humans among us will take charge of our nation, use what's left of our capitalistic methods in creating beneficial products, and move on to find a way to replenish the earth without destroying it. Trying to dominate and rule the world directly or indirectly is a futile "mission impossible."

Don't take this old man's word for it though. Wait and see for yourselves. You have more time.
