Samsung Mobile Announces the Winners of Its In-School Education and Recycling Program Sweepstakes
DALLAS - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile), the No.1 mobile
phone provider in the U.S.1, officially announced the winners
of the sweepstakes included in its nationwide in-school education and
recycling program. Samsung Mobile is pleased to announce Geneva High
School in Geneva, OH, is the recipient of a back-to-school concert by
pop/rock band Hey Monday. In addition, fifty schools will receive $1,000
"Green Grants" to put towards making their school more environmentally
friendly.
Samsung Mobile's eco-focused in-school education and recycling program,
which ran from April 1 - June 1, educated teens about the importance and
ease of mobile phone recycling. Students learned about the importance of
mobile phone recycling and the impact that it can have, both
environmentally and socially, and participated in activities that will
allow them to educate their peers, parents and local communities.
"Samsung Mobile is very excited to announce the winners of our in-school
education and recycling program sweepstakes. We'd like to thank all the
participating schools for their recycling efforts and for helping to
spread the word about the importance of recycling mobile phones," said
Paul Golden, chief marketing officer of Samsung Mobile. "Congratulations
to Geneva High School, the recipient of a concert by Hey Monday, and to
the additional fifty schools who will receive green grants."
"I am very proud of the wonderful job our science department did in
instilling the importance of protecting our environment to our
students," said Douglas Wetherholt, principal of Geneva High School. "By
using an easy platform, such as recycling a cell phone, our students
were able to get involved and participate in a program that really made
a difference."
Samsung Mobile's recycling efforts support Samsung's Eco-Management 2013
Plan announced in July 2009. The plan details a comprehensive set of
sustainability goals to be achieved by Samsung in 2013, which include
the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from manufacturing and
product, the development of eco-friendly product, financial investment
in eco-management initiatives and enhanced green partnerships with
suppliers and partners.
Geneva High School will receive a concert by Hey Monday in the coming
weeks. For more information about Samsung Mobile's In-School Recycling
