Will Dangerous Danielle, Envious Earl Bash Bermuda?
By Alex Sosnowski, Senior Expert Meteorologist for AccuWeather.com
AccuWeather.com reports Tropical Storm Earl is lurking in the shadows of Danielle, but is destined to take a path more to the west of its older tropical sister. It could be a case of sibling rivalry.
It would seem Bermuda is staring down the double barrels of a shotgun with Danielle and Earl cruising nearby.
Hurricane Danielle reached Category 4 status early Friday morning with sustained winds reaching 135 mph at 5:00 a.m. EDT.
Danielle remains a dangerous hurricane, and because of its size and strength will bring rough surf and gusty winds to the islands of Bermuda this weekend.
AccuWeather.com meteorologists expect tropical storm conditions over the island nation this weekend with potential for a squall or two from a spiral band bringing worse conditions for a brief time.
Gusts could be strong enough to cause minor property damage and toss loose items around, while waves may over-wash some exposed beachfront areas.
Unlike Colin earlier in the season, Danielle will remain a strong tropical entity as it reaches Bermuda's latitude.
Earl will strengthen this weekend and is forecast by AccuWeather.com meteorologists to reach at least Category 3 status early next week.
AccuWeather.com Hurricane Expert Joe Bastardi said, "Earl is a tricky storm and could re-curve to the northeast or could be shunted westward closer to Bermuda or perhaps toward the eastern U.S."
Both interests in Bermuda and from the Carolinas of the U.S. to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland need to keep a close eye on Earl as it is destined to track considerably farther to the west than Danielle.
As for the exact track of Earl, it is too early to tell. However, weather parameters are forecast to play out in such a way that at least Danielle will "avoid" making a direct hit on Bermuda.
Both storms could be close enough to play on the sands of the island nation.
