NTP Software Announces Full Manageability and Control for NFS Data on NetApp Unified Storage Systems

  Share With Friends

NASHUA, N.H. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - NTP Software, the worldwide leader in the real-time control and management of unstructured data, today announced full support for NFS data on NetApp unified storage systems.

Previously, the stateless nature of NFS connections has limited or, in many cases, completely prevented customers from managing NFS data in the same manner as CIFS data. NTP Software and NetApp collaborate to provide customers full control and management of NFS data and feature parity with existing CIFS solutions.

The NFS support encompasses v.3 and v.4 implementations and includes all of NTP Software's products, in particular NTP Software QFS, NTP Software File Reporter , and NTP Software File Auditor .

Not only are there entire industries, such as entertainment, whose storage is primarily NFS-based, but today many companies have heterogeneous storage environments. For example, a manufacturer may use CIFS for office documents and NFS for engineering diagrams. Now, for the first time ever, these companies can employ a coherent and consistent strategy for managing all of their file data, regardless of how it is accessed.

"Customers today are increasingly tasked with identifying ways to streamline business operations, increase business agility and produce results quickly," said Chris Cummings, senior director of Solutions Marketing at NetApp. "Adding NFS support to the NTP Software portfolio simplifies management and control of mixed NFS and CIFS environments and enables our mutual customers to improve operational efficiency and achieve desired business results with a minimum expenditure of time, energy, and resources."

"We continually seek to lead the industry in providing our customers with applications that help them better understand their current and future needs, and that give them the data required to justify their on-going investments in storage resources," said Bruce Backa, CEO of NTP Software. "Providing support for NFS has always been part of this strategic goal and is vital in addressing the needs of our larger customers and those in several vertical markets."
