Performance and Presentation Highlights for Maker Faire Detroit 2010
Makers Dozen, Schedules and Program Guide Now Available

Maker Faire Detroit, the Midwest's largest do-it-yourself (DIY) festival, is this weekend -- July 31st and Aug 1st, 2010 at The Henry Ford -- here is a quick snapshot of a FEW of the Makers, performances and presentation highlights.
From lasers to rockets and Power Wheels Racing, there's no shortage of fun and unique things to see and do at Maker Faire Detroit. On Saturday and Sunday attend metal casting demos, crafting talks, beekeeping demos, lock picking workshops and hackerspace discussions.

On Saturday from 10:30 am - 12 pm, there will be a special Detroit 2.0 panel focusing on transportation with special guests: Dr. Robert Bertini, Acting Director of Intelligent Transportation Systems (USDOT) and K. Venkatesh Prasad, Ford Motor Company.
Check out the local bounty in the Local Roots area. Find raw milk and bloom rind cheese, visit the Greenfield Village Herb Association, and bee keepers Bee Aware booth. Meet Peppermint Jim and sample Genesis Tea, learn about raising chickens, and don't miss out on demos by Brother Nature making healthy fast food and more. Also, be sure to take home a Local Food Map from Local Dirt.
At the Make Demo Stage, learn how to make cool things with micro controllers, build a cigar box guitar, your own little CNC mill; make your own gyrocar or a hydraulic ram.
At the DIY Theater, learn how to make hair pieces with feathers; build a business from your Junk Drawer, listen to the interesting things happening at the Hackerspaces in Detroit; learn how to fuse plastic, see Xyron's Creatopia in action; how to sew fabric flowers, how to use a button machine, and how to irrigate your garden.
Maker Faire wouldn't be Maker Faire without lasers. There will be a Laser Light Shows Sat. & Sun. in the Anderson Theater at 10 am, 12 pm, 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm.

Coke Zero and Mentos: See the original Internet sensation LIVE! Geysers of soda shoot over twenty feet into the air in this spectacular mint-powered version of the Bellagio Fountains, brought to you by the mad scientists of EepyBird.com. Shows are on Sat. and Sun. at 4 pm at the Coke Zero and Mentos stage.
Life-Size Mousetrap The Life-Size Mousetrap is a fantastically hand crafted, 16 piece, and 50,000-pound interactive kinetic sculpture set atop a 6,500-square-foot game board. This giant Rube Goldberg-style contraption comes complete with a Vaudevillian style show. Shows run throughout the day Saturday and Sunday. Check at the Mousetrap on-site for the full schedule.
Cyclecide Pedal-Powered Bike Rodeo
Alter-bike mechanics, mariachi-punk musicians and psychotic clowns form a traveling pedal-powered carnival that is fun for people of all ages. This inventive band of performance artists makes creations out of materials from the junkyard into outrageous bicycle contraptions and found-object sculpture.
Ticket prices include admission to both Maker Faire and Henry Ford Museum. Tickets can be purchased on site or online for $25 for adults (13-61), $16 for youth (5-12), $23 for seniors (62+) and children 4 and under are free. Two-day passes ticket prices are $50 for adults, $35 for youth, $46.50 for seniors and children 4 and under are free.
