Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Takes Leadership Position in Florida and Texas Statewide K-12 Adoptions
BOSTON - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Educators across the states of Florida and Texas are turning to
breakthrough products from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) to educate
the next generation of students. The global education leader announced
today that it claimed market leadership in two of the country's largest
K-12 education adoption markets, with flagship products being introduced
to classrooms across Florida and Texas this school year.
In Florida, Go Math! Florida has gained at least 65
percent market share, which means roughly two out of every three
students across the state will use the program to build a foundation and
deep understanding of math concepts through a custom-designed and
focused approach.
Meanwhile in Texas, HMH's new elementary reading program and secondary
literature programs gained nearly 50 percent market share. This fall,
over two million school students will be using these programs to improve
achievement.
"Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has always been committed to working with
administrators and teachers, listening to their needs and delivering
solutions to meet their challenges and support student achievement and
success," said Mike Lavelle, Kâ12 president, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
"This approach is reflected in the wide-scale adoption of our innovative
products."
With districts across the country currently adopting the Common Core
Standards released earlier this year by the National Governors
Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of
Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), HMH is releasing fully-aligned
editions of these new programs nationwide this Fall.
Go Math! Florida
Utilizing a variety of written, digital and hands-on instruction
methods, Go Math! Florida ensures that students are immediately
and fully engaged in the learning process. The program features a
"Write-In" student text, Grab & Go Classroom Kits and interactive
digital classroom lessons that provide problem-solving based experiences
and opportunities to explore mathematics in depth and achieve a holistic
understanding of material.
Go Math! Florida for grades Kâ5 is also the first elementary
mathematics program of its kind to receive the "Green Edition" seal,
which certifies that Houghton Mifflin Harcourt used environmentally
responsible manufacturing and distribution processes to produce and
deliver the 100 percent recycled textbook from author to reader.
Journeys
Designed at the school and classroom level with teachers, Journeys includes
support for the wide ranging needs of the everyday classroom in Texas
and across the country. English Language Learners (ELL) and children who
need reading and writing intervention are supported through Journeys,
one of the key reasons it has such wide teacher appeal. Journeys
was structured to support Texas and many other states and districts in
the overall need for a balanced literacy approach. In addition to the
strongest core reader on the market, Journeys provides resources
for Guided Reading, supported by Irene Fountas, an expert in the field
of small group instruction. For Texas teachers, Journeys provides
a perfect match for their balanced literacy model placing strong
emphasis on both whole and small group research based instruction.
Another innovative feature of the Journeys program is the
Adventure Unit, a magazine created especially for intermediate grades
that will keep students practicing skills learned during the year in a
"real world" context.
