World Cup: Germany Finish Third After 3-2 Thriller Against Uruguay
By David Jester
On the eve of the World Cup Final between Spain and Holland, Germany beat Uruguay 3-2 to claim the bronze prize in the third-place-playoff match.
The Germans were missing a few key players, including top scoring Klose, but they continued to play stylish and sweet football. Muller opened the scoring for them early on when he mopped up a rebound to slot in his fifth goal of the tournament. Cavani hit back for Uruguay after some neat passing before Forlan smashed the South Americans into a 2-1 lead.
They looked comfortable with that lead but ten minutes into the second half the Uruguayan Goalkeeper failed to catch a simple cross and Jansen headed into an empty net.
The game was wide open after that with end-to-end play and with minutes remaining Khedira knocked in a looping header to give Germany the lead and the third place finish in this World Cup.
