www.DrRidwan.com: Famed Urologist Dr. Ridwan Shabsigh, MD Discusses the Popularity of Doctors Television Talk Shows

NEW YORK, July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Ridwan Shabsigh, director of the Division of Urology at the Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, believes that the reason for the success of such shows as "The Doctors," "The Dr. Oz Show," and "The Dr. Phil Show" is because there's a void in the need for accessible and reliable medical information. "Sometimes people simply want to "Ask The Doctor" and get reliable information," explains Dr. Ridwan, "Medical information found online is not always accurate and accessibility to medical information in person is not always possible. It's for this reason that people flock to these health and medical talk shows to get the information directly from the sources."

Answering the demand for accessible medical information, Dr. Shabsigh created his own web-based health talk show program, aptly called The Dr. Ridwan Show. The show covers a variety of health topics and information that impact men and women by providing action tools to help them take control of their health. "My concern with self-guided medical research is that much of it that is found on the Internet is either not accurate or it's not applicable," explains Dr. Shabsigh. He also worries that people who glean information from fictional shows such as "House," "ER" and "Grey's Anatomy," are buying more into the dramatic appeal and disregarding reality.

With his medical talk show, Dr. Ridwan hopes to bridge the gap between fiction and reality, in a simple-to-understand format, delivering accurate and usable health information. Esteemed medical panelists also provide their unique insights and advice supporting Ridwan's show's tagline, "Health information you can use." His experts, Dr. Harry Fisch, Dr. Michael A. Perelman and Dr. Richard Sadovsky, tackle one hot topic per episode in men's health such as heart disease, prostate cancer, erectile dysfunction, Peyronie's disease, and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). The medical talk show episode concludes with helpful action tools, designed to inform, educate and incite viewers to take positive steps for their health and well-being.

"My intent with this medical health show is to raise the bar in terms of patient information and help supplement real-life doctor-patient interactions," explained Dr. Ridwan. The show, which can be viewed on his website at www.DrRidwan.com, encourages viewers to submit questions or suggest topics. "There is so much raw information out there so we break it down and process it in an understandable format for our viewers, by providing real doctors responding to real questions with real answers to real situations." Dr. Shabsigh feels the show has a real opportunity to fill a very real void in the area of medical consumerism.

In these times of healthcare reform, Dr. Shabsigh also hopes to fulfill another need in medicine by reducing the demand. "By educating my viewers, I hope to make them be more proactive in monitoring their health so that they won't have to run to the E.R. for something that can be taken care of in advance or prevented."
