Gotta Wear Shades: Tobii Eye-Tracking Glasses Help Researchers Gain New Levels of Insight Into Human Behavior
STOCKHOLM & WASHINGTON - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Tobii
Technology, the global market leader in eye tracking, announced
today the launch of Tobii
Glasses , a new cost-effective eye-tracking system that will help
researchers in commercial, scientific, and government organizations gain
a greater level of insight into the preferences, reactions, and personal
experiences of people in mobile, natural settings.
"Our new Tobii Glasses are truly revolutionary as we believe the product
opens up entirely new possibilities for our customers to do research
that previously has not been possible," said Tom Englund, executive vice
president of analysis solutions, Tobii Technology AB. "The application
of this product to provide insight into human behaviors could include
anything from understanding buyer preferences to learning about gaze in
operating mobile devices, playing sports, attending live events or
operating machinery. In fact, the applications are limited only by the
imagination - they are virtually endless."
Tobii Glasses, which are now available globally, present a total
solution that is the first of its kind, combining the power of mobile
eye tracking technology with fast data aggregation.
"For researchers, Tobii Glasses are a game changer," said Barbara
Barclay, general manager of Tobii North America. "Now subjects can put
on these glasses and be monitored while shopping, at restaurants, on
city streets, inside their car or in any other natural environment. This
gives our customers the ability to set up research subjects in real-life
environments with tools that have a natural feel. Then through our
analysis tool, Tobii
Studio , researchers are able to develop valid statistical results
in hours instead of days."
Tobii Glasses look and feel like modern eyewear and allow subjects to
walk around freely, making it easier for researchers to create a
real-world environment in which to capture user behaviors while they
browse in stores, use a computer, try out a new product, read an
advertisement and more. Additionally, the glasses are lightweight and
don't have distracting cameras or mirrors in the field of view or
require the user to carry bulky equipment, so the user acts more
naturally and the resulting data has a higher level of validity.
"We're very pleased that our global partnership with Tobii has allowed
us to be one of the first organizations in the world to test the new
Tobii Glasses," said Amaury de Conde, senior vice president, group
managing director,
Ipsos. "Our live study in a restaurant environment yielded unique
observations linking early gaze behavior to purchases that could only
have been possible with the use of this groundbreaking new Tobii
technology."
Tobii Glasses add time- and cost-efficiency to research operations. The
automatic data aggregation it makes possible removes the need for hours
of manual coding and compiling of information and significantly reduces
costs and time-to-market for study results. This product feature
ultimately enables more research to be completed at an overall reduced
cost to the organization. Tobii Glasses are also easy to use, require
little training and can be calibrated quickly - either before or after
the research begins.
