Norman Network Protection Awarded the First ICSA Labs Certification for Inline Detection Program

FAIRFAX, Va., June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Norman Data Defense Systems announced today that Norman Network Protection (NNP), an antimalware appliance that can be used as a gateway--or placed between network nodes to block insider threats--has received the first certification for inline detection of malware from ICSA Labs, an independent division of Verizon Business.

"Inline detection technologies provide organizations with protection against malware threats in their networks, especially sensitive areas where they are unable to use traditional security products," said Andrew Hayter, anti-malcode program manager at ICSA Labs. "It is increasingly important that security products are rigorously tested by a third-party certification body, such as ICSA Labs, to verify that high standards of quality and reliability are met. In this case, ICSA Labs can verify that Norman Network Protection helps users better protect against insider threats."

Malware appliances typically focus on stopping threats only at the gateway, but increasingly threats are being introduced by internal mobile devices, such as laptop PCs and USB devices connected to LAN segments. The ultrafast NNP appliance uses strong malware detection and analysis technology to provide a real-time protection between network nodes, which proactively protects against threats introduced from the inside.

Multiple protocols are scanned to stop malicious programs, keeping the network clean and allowing safe traffic to pass through quickly and efficiently. NNP runs on Linux to maximize throughput and availability. It is available as a software solution or as an antimalware appliance, based on Dell OEM servers.

In addition to being independent of network topology and transparent to other network entities, NNP uses powerful Norman SandBox® and DNA Matching technology to detect new malware, examine multiple protocols for threats, and reduce latency by scanning incoming and outgoing traffic on the fly. Norman DNA Matching is a new proactive technology and method for identifying the viral profile of all kinds of malicious programs and works in combination with Norman's patented SandBox technology.

The NNP Appliance supports Gigabit Ethernet capacity on multiple protocols and delivers high-performance inbound and outbound real-time scans of CIFS and SMB, Windows protocols and HTTP, FTP, SMTP, POP3, RPC, TFTP and IRC.
