World Cup: Cameroon 1-2 Denmark, Danes Win Thrilling Tie

Cameroon and Denmark were both disappointing in their opening games but when they played against each other tonight they created one of the best spectacles yet in this World Cup.

Cameroon took the lead with just ten minutes gone when Eto'o - restored to a preferred position up front - smashed the ball in from just inside the box. The Africans played some stylish football after the goal and were certainly on top but they were quickly caught out by the Danes when Rommedahl raced away down the right hand side before slipping in a pass to Bendtner who slid the ball into an empty net for the equalizer.

Before the halftime whistle both teams had great chances to take the lead. Rommedahl missed for Denmark with Tomasson failing from the follow-up and just seconds later Cameroon broke and Eto'o missed a great chance when his placed shot hit the post.

The second half began a lot slower than the first but with Cameroon still on top, it was Denmark, however, who took the lead; with Rommedahl on form again. The pacey winger faced his defender, dropped a shoulder to beat him on the inside and then curled a left-footed shot into the corner.

Cameroon pushed hard and Webo, Makoun, Emana and Song all peppered the Danish goal in a desperate search for a goal which would save their World Cup campaign. Idrissou missed a good chance from a header with five minutes to go as things just didn't swing Cameroon's way. Despite playing some very neat football and being the better of the two sides for most of this match, Cameroon are the first side to officially go out of the World Cup, they will play their final game against Holland with no hope of qualification.
