Flibanserin: Female Viagra
By Marcella Glenn
Fibanserin is a drug to give a nudge to sexual desire, Sexual Desire Disorder, in women. It didn't, and worked no better than a placebo in clinical trials.
The Food and Drug Administration posted results on its web site.
Boehringer Ingelheim, manufacturer, continues to have faith in Fibanserin. The manufacturer points-out it increases a woman's sexual desire than the intensity of desire.
There are side effects. Dizziness, nausea, anxiety and insomnia caused 15 percent of users in the experimental trial to stop taking it, compared to 7 percent of placebo users.
Side effects were worse in those that took the drug while using other drugs, medications, like: contraceptives, anti-depressants and anti-fungal treatments.
It's up to the Food and Drug Administration as to whether or not Fibanserin is approved for sale.
