World Cup: South Africa 0-3 Uruguay - Broken Hearts And Happy Silence

By

The vuvuzelas were blowing again as the host nation South Africa set up against South Americans Uruguay in a game that both sides couldn't afford to lose.

South Africa had the better of the opening play but it was Uruguay who scored the first goal. With twenty-five minutes played Diego Forlan smashed a shot from distance which took a wicked deflection off the South African Captain and dipped over the Goalkeeper and into the net.

There were a few glum faces in the crowd but the joyous hosts didn't stop believing when they went in 1-0 down at halftime, but this wasn't to be their night. A Uruguay win was the first prediction in round three of the Newsblaze predictions and I hope plenty of punters were on.

South Africa gradually pushed Uruguay back as they looked for an equalizer in the second half, but with less than fifteen minutes to play Uruguay got the ultimate break when Goalkeeper Khune fouled Suarez in the area and saw red. The substitute Goalkeeper failed to save the resulting penalty which was well struck by Diego Forlan who grabbed his second goal of the game.

The South African hearts were broken but for the first time in the tournament there was a moment - albeit brief - where the annoying vuvuzelas were silent. It came at a cost for the hosts but it was about time, those things were giving me a headache. In the relatively buzz-free stadium, Uruguay grabbed a third goal in the final seconds of the game when Pereira scrambled the ball over the line at the back post.
