Maselli Measurements Selects Falcon UPS to Solve Power Problem at Major California Winery
IRWINDALE, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Falcon Electric, Inc., (www.FalconUPS.com)
an award-winning manufacturer of Uninterruptible
Power Systems (UPS), power conversion and AC voltage line
regulators, today announced that Maselli
Measurements, the leading manufacturer of pH, sugar and acid-base
titration analyzers for the wine and beverage-making industry,
eliminated power-related downtime at a major winery after upgrading
their power protection from a computer-grade line-interactive
"switching" UPS to Falcon's true double conversion on-line SSG
Series high-temperatureârated UPS.
The Maselli group of companies is headquartered in Italy, and the U.S.
branch - called Maselli Measurements - is located in Stockton,
California. Luis Corominas, Maselli Measurements' technical director,
has spent his life in the wine and carbonated beverages industry. He
tells the rest of this story.
"One of the world's largest winemakers was using our instrument, which
was not functioning properly. I went on-site with the SM-03 user manual
and spoke with my customer. I brought the manual so I could point out
the site-preparation section, which clearly states that the AC power
must be a steady, clean 120 volts. When I brought up the fact that our
SM-03 was plugged directly into the wall receptacle and that our
instrument may be suffering from 'dirty' power, they insisted that the
facility's power quality was fine.
"After visiting the facility a few more times I learned that the power
quality was terrible. I finally brought an oscilloscope on site to prove
that the power quality was the root cause of the damaged instrument. I
then clarified some simple terms, like on-line and stand-by UPS to them,
and explained that unlike the line-interactive UPS they had installed,
only a true on-line UPS would solve the problem."
"My customer asked me to suggest a UPS manufacturer and, after
searching the Internet, it was clear that most UPS suppliers, like the
popular brand I use for my computer, target applications for servers and
data centers. After refining my search to an industrial UPS, I found
that Falcon Electric, along with a few others, offers products designed
to operate in harsher environments.
"What made Falcon Electric stand out is the fact that their industrial
and military products are truly rugged. For example, Falcon is the only
UPS vendor to offer products for high-temperature environments and
products that are gen-set compatible. Though we didn't want to spend the
money on a military-grade solution, it was nice to know that the U.S.
Army, Navy and Air Force use Falcon's products. Plus, Falcon Electric
specializes in on-line UPSs, so any model, sized properly, would solve
the problem. And it did.
"This is the situation I encountered last year when another one of my
customers, a facility manager, called our tech support department. The
customer knew his facility had 'dirty' power, despite the facility-wide
UPS they had on-site. They thought that they had bought a true UPS.
After asking about the brand and model number, it turned out to be a
computer-grade 'switching' UPS. We discussed the inherent problems with
the power quality in his facility affecting Maselli instruments and the
fact that the UPS he had deployed wasn't providing the critical
regulated power our SM-03 requires. I explained they needed a Falcon
Electric on-line UPS and directed them to www.FalconUPS.com.
"They took my advice and purchased a Falcon SSG Series 1.5kVA UPS (Model
SSG1.5KRM-1). They installed the UPS and eliminated the problem. My
customer was very impressed that the UPS was delivered so quickly - they
called in the afternoon and received it the next day. The facility
manager thanked me and expressed relief that he finally solved the
problem. He also explained that the product's price raised a few
eyebrows, since his purchasing staff always bought computer-grade UPSs
from the same popular supplier. My customer had to educate his
purchasing counterpart that the SM-03 was not working properly because
of using the 'wrong tool for the job,' and in this case a true,
industrial-grade, on-line UPS was the only solution.
"I have had great experiences with the Falcon SG and SSG Series - they
have been able to stand up to harsh conditions and this gives
credibility to our company's expertise. The Falcon Electric team, both
sales and post-sales tech support, is great to work with."
