Wells Fargo Invested $15 Million in Greater Los Angeles Nonprofits in 2009

LOS ANGELES - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Wells Fargo & Company invested $15 million in nearly 1,400 nonprofits in the Greater Los Angeles region in 2009 - up almost 9 percent over 2008. Wells Fargo invested $202 million in 18,000 nonprofits nationwide, surpassing $200 million for the second year in a row. In California, Wells Fargo awarded more than $58 million in grants in 2009.

The company remains one of the largest corporate contributors to nonprofit organizations in the Greater Los Angeles region, which includes nonprofit organizations and schools in Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara and west San Bernardino counties.

"We remain focused on providing resources to nonprofits to help ensure jobs remain intact, services are being provided, educational opportunities are present and our local communities continue to thrive," said John Sotoodeh, regional president for Wells Fargo Los Angeles Metro Community Banking. "Cash giving is just one of the ways we support our local communities. Through our community development programs, support for diverse suppliers, the generosity of team members in volunteering in our record-setting Community Support Campaign, as well as financial education and environmental programs, Wells Fargo is expressing its commitment to the economic well-being of communities."

In 2009, team members in Greater Los Angeles also reported more than 20,000 volunteer hours serving nonprofit organizations in their communities and donated $4,276,147 of their own dollars to local nonprofit organizations and schools through the company's Community Support Campaign which is an annual fundraiser encouraging employees to support any 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency or school, including the United Way.
