JBJS Changes Publication Frequency to Improve Timeliness

Needham, MA, June 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, American Volume (JBJS) is pleased to announce an increase in the number of issues being published per month. Beginning in July, 2010, JBJS will be published on the first and third Wednesday of each month. JBJS will continue to publish the same high quality, peer-reviewed articles divided between two smaller, easier to navigate, printed issues.

“Moving to a twice-monthly publication format allows JBJS to create a print edition that is easier to read and increases our interaction with the orthopaedic community. We live in a competitive information environment, and this move helps us to compete, both in print and online,” said Publisher and CEO Kent Anderson.

Along with this change in frequency, JBJS will introduce an online-first publication tool called “JBJS Express.” In order to bring new developments in orthopaedics to readers in a more timely manner than a traditional print journal allows, JBJS Express articles will be posted online before being published in a regular issue.

Additionally, JBJS will begin publishing certain articles primarily online-only. The “Orthopaedic Forum,” “Ethics,” and “Topics in Training” articles will be previewed in the print editions and will be available in their entirety online thereby focusing the print edition on research and reviews for the clinical audience. As part of their commitment to improving timeliness, the online version of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery will be considered the version of record beginning with the July 7, 2010 issue.

Editor-in-Chief Vernon T. Tolo, MD commented on the upcoming changes by stating “We will continue to expand our publishing offerings to facilitate orthopaedic learning. I personally have a strong commitment to preserving the integrity and quality of the Journal as we move forward with innovative ways to deliver the information readers want quickly, efficiently, and effectively.”
