eMix Medical Info Exchange Built on EMC Information Infrastructure
SAN DIEGO - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Behind the launch of eMix , a new cloud
computing service for sharing medical imaging studies and reports,
is an alliance between a leading PACS company and the world's leading
information infrastructure company.
In creating eMix ("electronic medical imaging exchange" ), RIS/PACS maker
DR Systems selected an infrastructure solution from EMC.
The choice was based on EMC's ability to quickly deliver a virtual
computing environment.
The result: Through pervasive data
center virtualization built upon cloud-based architecture, eMix
accelerated the reliable delivery of its medical exam-sharing service.
eMix also achieved greater infrastructure flexibility and lowered its
IT, energy and real estate costs.
eMix, a new business venture incubated by DR Systems, enables rapid,
secure sharing
of images and reports between disparate institutions and physicians
via the Internet. It can also facilitate associating patient images to electronic
medical records (EMRs) and patients' personal
health records (PHRs). This interoperable technology eliminates the
need for the provider facility to burn CDs, print films, and fax reports.
EMC and eMix have a shared vision for cloud computing as the future of
healthcare enterprise IT infrastructure. Cloud computing is a virtual IT
infrastructure that combines the controls and security of today's data
center with the agility and security required for eMix's exam-sharing
innovation, at substantially lower costs.
For example, Image Movement of Montana (IMOM), a grassroots organization
composed of 30 Montana healthcare facilities, has five of its facilities
utilizing eMix
after a successful beta test of the groundbreaking new technology. The
IMOM facilities -- including Great
Falls Clinic (Great Falls, Mont.), Kalispell
Regional Medical Center (Kalispell, Mont.) and St.
Luke Community Healthcare (Ronan, Mont.) -- were the first medical
institutions in the nation to securely share patient data via eMix.
"EMC technology and solutions for cloud-based storage infrastructure is
a proven technology that is utilized within my facility's PACS and
enterprise hospital information system," said Bill O'Leary, an IMOM
co-founder and Regional Outreach/PACS Administrator at Kalispell
Regional Medical Center. "It was a natural progression for our
institution to choose eMix and its utilization of one of the leaders in
cloud-based infrastructure computing."
About eMix
eMix is a new business venture incubated by DR
Systems, one of the most respected names in healthcare information
systems. Electronic Medical Information Exchange (eMix) is cloud-based
technology developed for sharing medical imaging studies and reports
between disparate healthcare facilities and physicians with the speed
and simplicity of email. eMix will also facilitate the inclusion of
patient images into electronic medical records (EMRs) and patients'
personal healthcare records (PHRs).
eMix will follow up the B-to-B (business-to-business) capability with
the launch of a patient portal for B-to-C (business-to-consumer) data
exchanges later in 2010, as well as a long-term storage feature with
highly flexible user-driven storage rules and options. For more
