Pursuit Ends in Collision: Parolee Flees in Stolen Truck
A LoJackŪ alert to one of Folsom Police Department's marked patrol cars led to a short pursuit from the Folsom city limits to Orangevale around lunchtime Monday. The pursuit ended with the arrest of a parolee who was out on bail for unrelated charges.
It all began at 12:31 p.m. when an officer patrolling on East Bidwell Street near Oak Avenue Parkway received an alert on his LoJackŪ monitoring unit. The alert signaled the officer to head northwest, eventually leading he and fellow officers to the area of Greenback Lane and Main Avenue. Once on the border of Orangevale and Folsom, an alert officer spotted the white GMC 2004 truck, which LoJackŪ had identified by license plate, outbound Greenback Lane approaching Walnut Avenue.
Officers trailed the stolen vehicle one mile while waiting for additional assistance, but it quickly became apparent the driver of the truck intended to flee. Based on the driver's erratic driving, Folsom Police officers attempted to stop the truck at Greenback Lane and Hazel. The truck continued fleeing westbound on Greenback Lane until it collided with a van parked at the intersection of Trajan Drive and Greenback Lane in Orangevale several miles away.
The driver and passenger of the truck both jumped out and attempted to run on foot. The passenger was apprehended first by the owner of the van they had hit, and second by officers arriving on the scene. The driver broke into a home on Wedgefield Way in Citrus Heights. He was eventually found by Sacramento Sheriff's Department canine teams in coordination with the Folsom Police officers. The stress of fleeing police and crashing caused the driver to attempt to take a nap in the resident's bed.
Tony Solomon, 31, of Folsom was arrested without further incident. He is currently on parole from the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Solomon posted $70,000 bail on Friday after being arrested by Sacramento Sheriff's. He is now being held at the Sacramento County Jail on new charges of Felony Evasion of a Peace Officer, Vehicle Theft, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, and committing a crime while on bail. Solomon's new bail was set at $45,000.
