Methamphetamine is An Expensive Habit
Folsom burglar arrested for the third time in 33 days
A Folsom contractor was disappointed when officers from the Folsom Police Department called to advise him one of his job site trailers had been burglarized. As the day materialized, the contractor's trust in the Folsom Police Department paid off.
Early Friday morning a resident from the 300 block of Persifer Drive found more than $20,000 worth of construction equipment hidden within the landscaping of his front yard. Confused, the concerned citizen called the Folsom Police Department for assistance. Patrol officers discovered a contractor's work trailer nearby which had been forcibly entered and burglarized. They contacted the victimized contractor and devised a plan.
With the full cooperation of the victim, police officers used his recovered property as bait, suspecting the culprit would return for the loot. The officers' instincts were right.
Approximately two hours after the property was discovered, John Wagner, 21, of Folsom, returned to collect the meticulously hidden items. Officers' took Wagner into custody without incident as he loaded the stolen items into his compact sports utility vehicle. He told the arresting officer he stole the property to support his expensive addiction to methamphetamine.
Wagner was released on bail after arrests on March 29th and April 16th for burglary related charges. He is also currently on probation for the same type of offenses. Investigators conducted a probation search at Wagner's Folsom home and located most of the stolen property, as well as a stolen motorcycle.
Eventually $25,000 in stolen property was recovered related to Wagner's criminal activities. He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail charged with Burglary, Vehicle Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, Committing a Crime while on Bail, and Probation Violations. Wagner's bail was set at $55,000. His next court appearance is May 4th at 1:30 p.m.
