NASHVILLE, Tenn. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - AmMed Direct, a Nashville-based provider of testing supplies, prescription medications and support services for people with diabetes, has become only the ninth pharmacy nationwide to receive Mail Service Pharmacy Full Accreditation from URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry.

With URAC accreditation, AmMed HomeCare Pharmacy demonstrated compliance with patient rights to privacy, authentication and security of prescription orders, and provision of meaningful consultation between patients and pharmacists.

"AmMed HomeCare Pharmacy should be commended for meeting strict quality standards," said Alan P. Spielman, URAC president and CEO. "It is critically important for health care organizations to make a commitment to quality and accountability. URAC accreditation is a demonstration of that commitment."

"We are very pleased that our HomeCare Pharmacy has met the high standards to become URAC-accredited," said Tom Herrmann, AmMed Direct's senior vice president and head of the pharmacy business unit. "This accreditation puts us in an elite group of pharmacies that have shown their commitment to providing quality services to patients."

URAC accreditation is a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation process. Carried out by an independent entity, it establishes a meaningful measure of quality. It gives increased certainty and consumer confidence in a product, a service and an organization.

AmMed's pharmacy operation serves patients in all 50 states and fills thousands of prescriptions every day.
