McGlinchey Stafford Welcomes Distinguished Former U.S. Attorney David R. Dugas to Baton Rouge Office

Mr. Dugas will be the chair of the firm's national practice in energy and co-chair of its governmental investigations team. He will be based in the firm's Baton Rouge office. Throughout his career Mr. Dugas has had extensive experience in two fields critical to the Gulf region: complex oil and gas matters and special investigations by the federal government and its many agencies. Mr. Dugas for years has handled complex oil and gas litigation, environmental, and administrative issues. In addition, he brings insight and experience to bear when companies face investigations by governmental agencies, for these investigations can have both civil and criminal consequences.

In 2005, Mr. Dugas was named Executive Director of the Hurricane Katrina Fraud Task Force and Director of the Department of Justice's National Center for Disaster Fraud where he served through April 2010 coordinating disaster fraud investigations nationwide for the Department of Justice. For his leadership in these roles in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Dugas was named "2005 U.S. Attorney of the Year" by the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association.

Mr. Dugas is a 1978 graduate of Louisiana State University Law Center, where he served as Associate Editor of Louisiana Law Review and received numerous academic honors. He attended the United States Air Force Academy, earning multiple honorable distinctions and awards, before ultimately completing his undergraduate studies at Louisiana State University.
