FPL Encourages Families to Conserve Together, Today and Tomorrow
JUNO BEACH, Fla. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - As an industry leader in environmental stewardship, Florida Power &
Light Company encourages its customers and their children to do their
part to help protect the environment today and for years to come. The
third installment of FPL's environmental awareness campaign, "Earth Day
Is Every Day," is aimed at educating kids about how they can help their
families save energy and protect the environment.
"FPL believes in the importance of educating the next generation about
best practices in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, which
is why we partner with schools and institutions throughout Florida to
reinforce that message," said Pam Rauch, vice president of corporate &
external affairs for FPL. "Especially if you can find ways to make it
fun and interesting, kids can be not only beneficiaries of environmental
protection efforts, but drivers as well."
In addition to providing tips to help families treat every day like
Earth Day, FPL is hosting environmental awareness and clean-up events
around the state throughout April. On April 17, FPL employees will be
volunteering in local communities around the state for the company's
annual Power to Care Day; and on April 22, the official Earth Day and
Take Your Child to Work Day this year, FPL's Captain Conservation will
teach City of Miami employees and their children about energy efficiency
with a special performance at City Hall.
FPL's "Earth Day Is Every Day" Phase Three:
Conservation Education for the Next Generation
April 17 - Make environmental conservation a day at the beach:
participate in a local beach clean-up! Hundreds of FPL employees and
their families are volunteering today throughout the company's service
territory in local community events, including beach clean-ups.
April 18 - Pack lunches in reusable containers to reduce waste. Give
kids a reward each time they remember to bring their container home from
school.
April 19 - Incorporate energy-saving chores into kids' everyday routines
- simple responsibilities such as setting the air-conditioning to 82
degrees before leaving for school or turning off unnecessary outdoor
lighting before bedtime can make a big difference.
April 20 - Many electronics continue to draw power even when they're
off. Install power strips on video and computer equipment, and show your
kids how to safely use them to save energy.
April 21 - Observe Earth Day early by taking a night off from the
television to enjoy the outdoors together.
April 22 - Today is Earth Day and Take Your Child to Work Day -
celebrate both by encouraging kids to reuse paper from office recycling
bins for drawing or writing.
April 23 - Are you on Facebook? Here's a page that both you and your
kids can be a fan of: www.facebook.com/FPLenergytips.
April 24 - Take children of all ages on an environmentally friendly,
educational day trip that they'll enjoy. You can find events in your
area at www.floridastateparks.org/thingstodo.
